How certain are you about William Gales b.abt 1702? I can't find any information about him prior to his m. to Isabel Bennison. The reason I ask is that I have a copy of their application for a m. licence. A part of the printed bit says: ' ... and made Oath as follows, That he is of the Age of Years, and upwards, and a
and intends to marry ....... '
In manuscript the work 'forty' is written at the age bit, and then in the other blank I think it says, again in manuscript, 'Widower'. This would make him b.abt 1713/14. I know sometimes people fib about their age but it would seem there was no need to do so in this case.
I've recently discovered that a William Gales was born at Hutton-Rudby abt 1713, m. Jane Bowes 21 Nov 1738 at Stokesley, North Yorkshire and, so far, I've found only 3 children, b.1742, b.1746 d.1747, and b.1749. However, there is also a William Gales born abt 1713 at Long Newton, Durham, so I need to investigate further.
