Check the info on islandregister.com and pineau.net carefully. Some of it is incorrect. These were large families whose children all had similar names, ie. Marie, Joseph, that you need to be careful. These families intermarried many times and decendants have been placed in the wrong families which is easy enough to do. Also at times the names were French another English, Pierre/Peter. This also caused errors. They are great places to start, but dont take it as gospel.

Not sure if you are still looking after all these years. I am currently researching my maternal family tree. I believe that Thomas Jones and Helene Gallant may be my great-great-grandparents. My great-grandparents were Adam Smith and Sarah Jones. I have not been able to get much information on them except that she was born in New Brunswick according to a census and that she died in 1895 and he remarried in 1898. I am still trying to determine if she is the Sarah of Thomas and Helene.

A search of the 1881 census records indicate that he may be the son of Joseph GALLANT (b. 1826) and Elizabeth, with siblings Walter, Georgina, Gabrella, Habert, Mai/May (married PETERS), Cornelius and Clarence. According to the 1910 U.S. Census, Eugene immigrated in 1884 and married my 1st cousin 4x removed in 1903. I'd like to confirm that "my" Eugene is the son of Joseph and Elizabeth if possible.

I understand why you would think that about the two families but I don't think there is the connection you are looking for. I am a member of the Gionet family and, while we do have Micmac blood, the name does not come from Cheif Jeanot, it comes from Francois Gionet who was 100% French, from France. He married a micmac woman and from there came more. At least that's the story to my understanding and it comes directly from the family as well as ancestry books.

Hope that helps a little

Hi, I am hoping someone may be able to help me. My mother Susan Jane Gallant was born 4/19/1950. Her father's name is James Clifford Gallant and her mothers name is Anna(we have no other information). Her mother passed away when she was 5 and that is the last contact my mother had with her siblings and family on that side except for the occassional visit from her father. I would like to try and find the Gallant's from Lynn, Massachusetts who may be related to my mom for her 59th birthday this year. I know this is a long shot but I would really like to put together a family tree for her.

His name was Michel Hache Gallant his wife was an Arsenault. They had I believe 9 children. I di a lot of research on this, there's a big monument in Amherst for people to see an the cite where the house was.
