CRESTLINE: Richard Dean Gallentine, Sr., 85, of Crestline, Ohio died Friday, April 29, 2011 at Mill Creek Nursing Center in Galion, Ohio.
Born July 25, 1925 in Crestline, Ohio he was the son of the late William Wesley Gallentine and Alice Pearl (Minch) Gallentine.
Dean attended Crestline High School and was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army, receiving three bronze stars.
During the 1960's, he was a First Lieutenant in the Ohio Defense Corps. Dean was a former Crestline Police Officer, worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road, was a bartender, a security guard and worked at PPG.
He is survived by his three sons, Richard Dean Gallentine, Jr. of IN, Robert Gallentine and Shannon Gallentine both of Texas; one daughter and a son-in-law, Debbe and Larry Steinhilber of Galion; seven grandchildren including, Eric (Cheryl) Steinhilber, Michelle Bollinger, Chad (Malinda) Steinhilber, Andy Gallentine and Heather Gallentine; five great grandchildren; and two brothers, John Gallentine of Ft. Myers, FL and Roy Gallentine of Crestline, Ohio.
Dean was also survived by his former spouse, Helen Reamsnider of Galion, the love of his life.
He was preceded in death by one son, Donald R. Gallentine; a grandson, Harley Gallentine; two brothers, Donald W. Gallentine and Wayne Gallentine and a sister, Betty Jo Taylor.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2011 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, with Simon Avila officiating.
Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery where full military graveside honors will be bestowed by the United States Army and Galion/Crestline area veteran's organizations.
