Linda,

I have my Gallier's going back to France - 1615. Researching census records, one family had the spelling of Gallien, Galien, Gallier - all in one family - the census takers were not all that literate. More than likely, as some of us have discovered, the census takers spelled the names phonetically because so many of our ancestors could not read and write.

The "Gallien" name was changed to "Gallier" when they moved to Texas, so if you cannot find it under "Gallien" look under Gallier.
