Hello, My dad was Francis Charles Gallien born in 1924. I know his family was close to New Brunswick, in that area you mentioned. Also my mother's parents Dominic Mallett and Lorena Ayeo were born up that way. I bet we are distant cousins? My dads dad was Max Gallien. I'm going to join Ancestry soon, so maybe we will find more answers?

Francois Gallier (1824/86) of LA. ... Don't know what all this means but I'm thinking we're related somewhere along the line. This is my first day to work on this and I admit I don't have a clue! ... Thanks for reading this and I hope you'll reply.

Hi
My mom was a Gallier from Beaumont. She was dtr of Jacob John Jr, son of JJ Sr, son of Joseph Sr, son of a Francois, I believe. There I get confused as there are several Francois'... born in varying years of 1819(I believe bro of Joseph), 1795, 1772, 1768, and 1737 (married to Henriette Grossin).

I'm missing most of the female spouses/mothers. Some people have Felicity Bertrand as the mother of Joseph Sr.(who was born in 1814 or 1815), but I believe Joseph's father had a first wife since Felicity and Francois married in 1818.

Perhaps you can help me straighten it all out. I've looked to see if you (terrichelsea) show any hints on your public trees... but it looks like your Gallier/Galliens is private.

I had been working on the assumption that the Gallier/Gallien line descended from Francois Gallier (b. 1737..parents not known) and Henriette Grossin, but I'm beginning to think this might be wrong.

This is all so confusing. I've decided that people should not be allowed to use the same name more than once in a family... lol All of those Josephs, Francois, etc.

I am trying to find out more about the Gallien side of my family. I never knew my grandfather, Dorsey Gallien, Sr., who died when my father was a small child. I am trying to find out who his father was. I believe his first name was Dubose/Deburse Gallien and he married Martha Garsee. They had three children, Mary Madie, Dorsey, and Odum. I believe he may have been married prior to Grandma Martha and had children with the first wife. He was a good bit older than Martha. I have no idea who the first wife was. Any help would be appreciated. I'm stuck!

I have only focused a small portion of my work on my father's side. I do have the above marriage, death certificates and some birth certificates if you would like them.
What a beautiful photo you have!!! I am going to have to figure out who Joseph Frank Gallien is and how he fits into my Gallier line. I have been doing this research for YEARS, but will admit that I left the Gallien line research once my branch became the Galliers of Beaumont, TX. Let's see if we can figure this out -- The last official Gallien in my line is Francois (my gggggrandfather!!) born 2 Oct 1772 in Opelousas. His son, Joseph(my ggggrandfather -- who was born a Gallien, but remained one briefly) and Francois moved to TX in the early 1800's where the name mysteriously changes to Gallier. It has remained Gallier ever since in TX.

Francois' father, who was also named Joseph Gallien, was born 15 Feb 1723 in Canada but died in LA. Are you related through THIS Joseph's son -- and Francois' brother -- Joseph -- born in Opelousas 15 Jan 1781??

Did I confuse you enough!!!!?? Gosh knows, I think I have confused myself! Terri

Hi Chaunda,
I am from the white branch of the Galliens, though my direct branch actually moved to TX and changed their name to Gallier. Are we from the same line!!?? "My" Gallien -- Francois, moved from Opelousas with his son Joseph -- they changed their name for some strange reason. I can trace my family back to Quebec and France. Are we the same family?? Terri
His father came here from the Isle of Guernsey to Natchez, Mississippi and they migrated to Albany NY. As to when Peter's father died, unsure, but it would have been in Albany. Is ther a first name on the grave marker? Mary Jane was born in 1870. Thanks for the request. Rhoda

My mother is Deloris Jones (Garland - changed from Gallien). her father was Leon Gallien and his father Gabriel Gallien. Gabriel was the brother of Cleveland Gallien and their father was Frank Gallien. Frank Gallien's Father was Nicolas.... I had to pull out my family reunion T-Shirt to make the links.
Sure, be glad to send you a photo. It's pretty poor quality, the original old and faded, but you can make out quite a bit of detail nevertheless. This is not a funeral, but workers making preparations. I believe the men are in the process of setting a stone Gallien monument in place, or maybe they have already done so.

How shall I send this to you? My email address is carolyngloec@bellsouth.net, my name is Carolyn Gloeckner, and I live in the Florida Keys.

My interest is not in the Galliens, no relationship there, but in William Milne who I think is in the photo, and in the date of the photo, which I think might be figured out from the date of the Gallien burial.

Please email your email address and I will email you the picture. I think it's probably at 200 dpi, but it's a big photo, 9 inches wide by 6.5 inches high. I would be grateful for any information you can offer.

Carolyn
My ancestor William Milne worked as a stonecutter -- monument maker -- there. Can you give me a possible date (burial date, that is) for the picture? It has to be before 1903, when William Milne was killed (on the job accident). Thanks for any information.

Carolyn
