William Galliher in Virginia and Indiana

William Galliher was born between 1790 and 1800 probably in Virginia. He married a woman Elizabeth ______. They had
1)Sarah Jane Galliher (born 1820 in Virginia)who married John Clary Davis
2)Job Galliher (born btwn 1820 and 1825 va or Indiana)
3) William Galliher (")
4)John D. Galliher (abt 1827)
5) Mary Galliher (abt 1829)
6) Francis M. Galliher (1835)
7) Nelson Galliher (1837)

Found that 2 of the children were raised by a Joshua Meeks

By 1830 William is living in Rush County, Indiana. He married Catherine Smith in 1839. In 1842 she married Thomas Addison. I assuming William passed away between 1840 and 1842. In the 1850 census, the children are living with Nathan Crawford.
I can't find this line of Gallihers anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Ben Galliher was my grandfather. Mack Galliher his son was my father. Annie was his sister and Anne your grandmother was her daughter. Annie moved to Idaho when I was young and I only met your grandmmother asa child. My mother is alive and remembers Annie well. She could tell you about the family better than me. All of dads family are dead in this area except my sister and brother and a few cousins. Ben lived and died in Elizabethton, Tn.

Yep, I know you too. Silly. I've been to alot of the family reunions. I was answering Summer. What I have is just in my head. From when Nellie would tell things. We should have gotten her and Kat to set down and record things. That's were history gets lost. Young people don't care and don't listen. I used to make her and Fred tell all they could remember. I just wanted to know. I did find all the Lucas'. I even have a cousin that lives 20 mins. from me now. Pictures of my mom and dad. Which Juanita,Andy and I didn't have any. So we all do now. So hows your family doing? Daughters, Grandchildren, wife?

I know you. Juanita lived with us until my parents divorce and our family fell apart. I would have been eight years old when your parents were killed in the accident. Even then I remember it well and my heart went out to you, your sister Juanita and brother Andy.

I have done a lot of genealogy work but all a long time ago. It is good to hear from you. Yes, I would like any information that you might have. I gave most of the information that I had to Monica.

My name is Ollie Mae. My mother was your Papa's sister, Pauline Galliher. She was killed, along with my father, in 1958. I was then raised by his older sister, Nellie Marie Galliher. So there is a whole bunch of us on Facebook. You have a HUGE family, especially in Ohio. I live in North Carolina. We are all scattered. I am working on a Galliher family Tree. Just haven't had much time to work in it lately. If you would like any info, let me know. If I can't supply it, there are those that can.

Joel Alexander Galliher, who was married to Susan Emeline Keller
Joel Galliher, Jr. who was married to Nancy Jones
Joel Galliher, Sr. who was married to Nancy Dickerson
Hugh Galliher from Ireland - spouse unknown

I have little to no information on the siblings of any of these people. I show your Rachel, daughter of Joel. But absolutely no information for her. You could probably furnish me with some information like birth, death, etc. And I could do the same for you on some of my ancestors along this line.

I'm also looking for pictures, stories about them, anything I can find that would pertain. It has been a rather difficult road finding the info I have. I never knew my grandmother Anna, and my father and his brothers have little to no information about this family. So, there are no family records or remembrances to help in my search.

I have accumulated a bit of information on the web, etc. that I would be glad to share with you if helpful. Let me know.

Sure thing, here is the information that I have.

Hugh Galliher Sr I show having Joel, Hugh, William, Mary, and Rachel.
Joel was born in 1760 Washington Co VA and Married Elizabeth Dickerson born 1764 in Washington County VA died 1852

They had William, Joel, James, John, Samuel, Nancy, Rachel H (my gggg grandmother), Jane, and Catherine D.

I mainly have information on Rachel H (daughter of Joel) on down but don't have info on Rachel, daughter of Hugh. I also have here that Nancy, daughter of Joel, married a Keller and had a son, John.

Do you have other info on your Galliher line? I'm on 23 and me and am trying to piece together the links of my ancestry. I have many people in Ireland that I share DNA with but it could be through the Gallihers or through other Irish.

I have a Rachel Galliher who was the daughter of Hugh Galliher. Is this your Rachel? If so, she would be the sister of Joel Galliher, which is the line from which I am descended.

In my research, I have found 2 Hugh Gallihers who came here from Ireland about the same time period. Their information seems to be intertwined. My Hugh Galliher came to Rowan County, NC, and from there entered what is now Washington Cty, Virgina.

If this is the same family and you have any information on them, I would be very excited to know if any of it might fit in with what I currently have.

I am descended from from Rachel Galliher who is a descendant of Hugh. I don't know where in Ireland that Hugh came from but I do have a list of many of his descendants from the 1750s down to me. Rachel settled in Southern Indiana and its where my family has lived ever since.

I am updating this post with information I have found since posting to see if anyone can help me.
Anne Galliher (1903) Abington area of Virginia was the dauther of McClelland Galliher and Mary McGuire. McClelland was the son of Joel Alexander Galliher and Susan Emeline Keller. Joel Alexander was the son of Joel Galliher (1794) and Nancy Jones. Joel Galliher was the son of Joel Galliher (1760) and Elizabeth Dickerson. I believe Joel Galliher 1 was the son of Hugh Galliher from Ireland. Can't prove that. Anyone have any better info I'd appreciate a post. Thanks

Hello, sorry its taken me so long to get back to you I have been out of the country. I do have some information on the Galliher side of the family that I can share with you. Unfortunately my father was not raised by his father Wilmer Galliher and so I had only limited information from him and he is now deceased. But I have done some research and found some Census records etc. I will email them to your email and perhaps within some of it you can find a link or clue.

Looking for Galliher relatives my Grandfathers name was:
Wilmer Galliher he was born on March 22, 1891 in Hutchinson Kansas, and died 1931 in Laredo Texas
his his parents were: DL Galliher born in 1857 in Illinois and Ella M. Welch, who was born in 1858 in Illinois.

Wilmer Galliher had two siblings they were named: Iva Galliher born 1889 and Glea Galliher born 1887. This is everything I have so far.

Hi, my Galliher's are from Iredell Co., NC. USA. I believe that earlier kin came from Donegal also, but have no proof. My gggrandfather was John Galliher, married Sarah Hoover. Her parents were John Hoover and Regine Lieb (Lipe) Hoover. John and Sarah had 4 children: Mary Catherine 1838, John Cowan 1839, James Elias 1841 and Julius Alexander Galliher 1846. John died 1856 according to guardianship papers, Sarah died in 1898. Do you have any info. that I could use. I have not been able to find John's parents. Would love to talk with you. Caleb Galliher abt. 1813 is my Great Great Grandfather.(Illnois) Wife Jane Peoples/ Their son Albert Galliher abt. 1851 is my Great Grandfather (IL) Wife Anna Elizabeth Kimbell. Caleb also had a son James Galliher born abt.1838. I am looking for more information on James as I find no record of him past the 1860 census. Galliher family of Bristol Virginia

I am researching my family line and hitting brick walls everywhere I turn trying to find the Galliher line I need. My grandmother was Anne (Anna) C. Galliher (had a twin brother William) born in 1903, and four other siblings (Otis; Mayne;MacKie; and Conley). Fathers name was Mack (MCJ; McClelland?), mother Mallie or Mary, depending on what census record you are looking at. Anna married Norman Roy in 1920 and moved to Ohio. Had 3 children, and died in 1988 in Columbus, Ohio. If anybody has a clue to give me, I'd certainly appreciate your help.

Hi - my name is Linda. My Great-grandfather was Benjamin Johnson Galliher, b.1877 in VA. His wife was Mattie Minton. Their daughter, Eliz A. (Annie) was my grandma. She died when I was young. he was living in Abingdon in 1900 with his wife Mattie b 1881 VA; daughter Eliza A. b 1898 Abingdon, VA and son Otis J. b 1900 Abingdon, VA
Perhaps Eliza A. is your grandmother Annie.

Hi - I am new to this. I need information about Benjamin Galliher. He was born in 1877 in VA. He married Mattie Minton. Their daughter, Annie, was my grandmother. She married Roy Arnold and moved to Iowa abt. 1929. I have one picture of gpa Ben with several of the grown children including my gma. I do not have a picture of Mattie. I am trying to find information on my grandmother's side of the family. Her name was Anne Galliher born in Abingdon, VA in 1887. She has several brothers & sisters. Anne married Roy Arnold. The only list I have gives her father's name as Ben Galliher, her mother, Maddie (or Mattie) Minton. Anne's grandmother is listed as Annie. On the next line they have placed Taylor and Galliher. Unsure if this could be Annie Taylor married to a Galliher or Taylor Galliher.

if you are still on Ancestry.com I'm Clem and Dorothy's daughter, Terri. Dorothy was a daughter of Baker and Charmie Cross Galliher. Baker was your Mom's brother. I am also doing the Galliher's for my children. Sharon is bed ridden now and can't hardly do anything. Her MS has really gotten bad. That's why you haven't heard from her in awhile. I have lost contact with family in Bristol and Kingsport since Mom and Dad passed away. Would like to contact them again. Terri

My name is Larry Marshall. My Grandmother's name was Margaret Ellen Havens DOB 2-28-1883= DOD 11-17-64.
She was the daughter of William P. Havens and Sarah
Elizabeth Galliher, according to her bible her parents
was married on 1-14-1880, That is the only information
that I have on either of her parents. I have infor on
her brothers and sisters of their dates of births and of
their marriages and deathes. Will be glad to pass it to
anyone that it would help. I do know that they did come
from the Fleminsburg Ky area before moving to Lebanon,Oh.

Hi Johnny, I read your info. on the Galliher's of NC and must tell you we are related. My mother was Katie Galliher whose father was Robert (Bob)son of Julius. I have been researching since the early 1980's but have had no luck tracing Jim (John) further back than who he was married to. Do you know who Jim's father or mother was? Johnny, I too am related to Julius Galliher. He was my gggrandfather. My information that I have says that John (who was married to Sarah Hoover) died in Oct. 18, 1856 according to the court appointed guardians for the children, mary catherine, john cowan, james elias and julius alexander. Where did you get your information? Do you have sorces that show him going by Jim? I would be interested in hearing from you. Do you go to the Galliher reunion in July each year in Statesville? I am descendant of John Galliher, 1793 in Greenup, ky. My great-great grandfather was John Galliher Jr. born 1836. We have no info on the Galliher family, because John Jr in 1864-65 was married to a Nancy F?. and my line came from a girl< Nancy Magdeline Storer, that he met in Shelby, Ill while working as a carpenter. They had a daughter, Jane Anne Storer who was my great grandmother and the only link we have to John Galliher. We know he listed himself in 1880, Massac, Ill as Native. We know his brother Obediah listed himself at one time as Chickasaw. My great grandmother said her father, John Jr was Native American or part. We would like to have more info on this side of the family. We are close to Salt Lake City...the home of the largest geneology library in the U.S. We just need more info.......

I am a direct descendant of John Galliher Jr. We have no info on the family. He was married to a nany in 1864-65 when he met my great-great grandmother Nancy Magdeline Storer in Shelby< Illnois area, where he worked as a carpenter. They had a daughter, Jane Anne Storer who was my great grandmother. He listed himself as Native in 1880 census and his brother Obediah once listed himself as Chickasaw.
