Some of the Ancestry.com posts are very old but I will try anyway.
I am working on Genealogy for my grandson so that when he grows up he will know his family history. His Great grandmother was Eva J. Gallimore I believe. She was known to us as Evylen C Adams or Emmy or Ivy or Evy and had 4 children which are posted on my tree. I have been trying to understand how her name changed so much. My brother-in-law has some pictures and names I just have a very few pictures which don't really tell me much. I guess she was a telegraph operator for the railroad and so traveled around the country she was in Ca a few times her husband was George W Adams he is also shown in my tree. He was married 2 times. I am not sure about her there seems to be blank spots here and there. I never met her as my husband Lance wasn't much for traveling and visiting family. I understand her to be part Indian too and Lances Father and our daughter have very dark eyes and oliveish skin and the picture I have of Eva looks like she could very well be part Indian. I cant find the Indian connection either. Stephen said something about I have some posted pictures pictures of Eva and Lorin her son. Sharon

Yes, as a matter of fact I have a copy of his birth record from Burslem that my aunt got me years ago.

I also have a typed copy of his obituary from the East Liverpool, Ohio paper when he died in 1905 if you would like a copy of that as well.

Email me at briana2620@yahoo.com with your email address and I will scan them and send them to you.

Somewhere, I have a picture of the house in Burslem that another research and relative sent to me years ago.

Glad to find someone else who is researching the Gallimores.

Thank you for the information you posted sometime ago regarding my grandmother, Amelia Gallimore Smurthwaite Welch. I knew she came to the US at a young age but didn't know exactly when. Would you by chance share the copy of John's birth record? I don't have too much info on Grandma but do know that 15 years ago the house in Burslem where she was born was still standing and inhabited. Thank you for any other information you might care to share.
Mary Lou Petrausch

My Amelia didn't hve a sister Arabella but she did have a sister Mary Ann. My Amelia is much older - birth date about 40 years before yours. My grandfather, Amelia's son, fits your dates better.

I have a John and Hannah Gallimore who were both born c 1799 - I believe her maiden name was Down. They are the parents of my Amelia and also George, Samuel, John, Mary Ann and Eliza.

Robyn Gallimore

Your grandmother Amelia is the younger sister of my great-great-grandmother Arabella. Their parents were John Gallimore and Arabella Evans. They arrived in NY on Sept 22, 1881 when Amelia was just a baby. I know that your grandmother married a Robert Smirthwaite and then an Albert Welch, but not much more on her line.

John's parents were Francis and Hannah Heath Gallimore and I have a copy of his birth record. Arabella's parents were John and Mary Ann Evans.

If you are still doing research, let me know.

Hi,
I was interested in your message re Amelia Gallimore. My Great-great grandmother was also named Amelia Gallimore. However I know that they are not the same person. My g.g. grandmother was born approx. 1834 in Burslem, Staffordshire. It is possible that your great grandfather and my Amelia were brother and sister. I do not have the names of Amelia's parents. I found your Grand mother on the 1881 cencus, but it did not help me much.
Please let me know if you can make a connection.

Regards,
Pat.

It seems we are related in some way. My mother was Lucy Stubbs born in 1905. I have some birth and death certificates and I have posted some photos on our ancestry website, Tredgold tree. I would be interested to know how our parents were connected.

Hi Dennis,
I've heard of the "Turks" of Sumter, SC, who fought in the American revolution. They are mentioned in a book by N. Brent Kennedy, who works at the Clinch Valley College, at Wise, VA. I recently heard of a group called "melussai."
This could be a different group from Turkey. The name Basil could be traced to Greek, and the Byzantine Greeks once ruled what is now Turkey. Some were named "Basil" which comes from the Greek word for "king."
The Swiss city of Basel gets its name, I think, from its Basilica, which is a special kind of church.
I have corresponded with N. Brent Kennedy about the remote possibility that some of the "Turks" mentioned in his book might have started out as a Greek religious sect.
My own connection with a name spelled both "Basil" and also "Basel" is from Wisconsin, where relatives of mine named "Brunner" married people by that name. Since the Brunners were probably originally Swiss, it seems that these Wisconsin Basils probably are also.
There are other names, possibly related, such as "Bazell," found in the South, and "Bazzle." On the latter's message board, one person asked, "Where do Bazzles come from?"
Jerry Baker e-mail: glbaker50613@yahoo.com

Paschal is listed as mulatto, which could mean black mixed with white or indian. His greatgrandmother Mary (Molly) Scot, who married Hebbert Gallimore, Paschal's son, was remembered by her youngest son to be an Indian. I cannoat find this connection, yet.
Hope this helps. I am also emailing you with this information, as I'm not sure if you are still using Ancestry.com.
William S. Gallimore m Lucinda Purcell 1851 (b North Carolina, USA?)

Dennis-

I am tracing my family as well...I am a distant cousin of Anna Gallimore Williams that used to post on this board. I know from my grandparents stories that we are definately of mixed blood, but so far I havent traced far enough back to find it. So far, I have traced my line back to William S. Gallimore who married Lucinda Purcell in Feb. of 1851. I believe William may have been born in North Carolina but I cant confirm that. Do you have him in your records? Thanks for your time.
Melissa

Re: Rev. Wesley Gallimore-Mary Patten

These people (family members) are in my family tree also. I believe it was my fathers grandfather who was the minister, married to Mary Patton. Their 4 children Elizabeth (known as Dr. Bess Gallimore) the first woman physician in Santa Clara county (SJ), her sister Sue became a school teacher and Robert (whom I believe is my dad's father, became a Calif. highway patrolman. He was one of the very first motorcycle CHP's. I have a picture of him on his Harley Davidson CHP bike & my father on his bicycle taken 9-16-1937. There is a Gallimore burial plot located in San Jose, CA @ Oakhill cemetery. Most of the Gallimore's are buried there including my father Robert Wesley Gallimore (1924-2006). Dr Bess Gallimore use to own 1860 The Alameda (not quite sure that was the exact address) where the San Jose Inn resides today. I have a picture of her and her horse & buggy going on a house call with two small children in the buggy with her. I believe I also have a picture of young children with the names Robert and Sue written on the back. I believe Frances (ie: Peggy) became a dancer and I have several model pictures of her. If I can tell you any more just let me know. My sister has the diary of when the Gallimores came across country perhaps she would be able to answer more questions for you too.
