I am in search of the descendants of a John Gallivan, born November 14, 1829 in County Kerry, Ireland and who lived & died in Columbia City, Indiana. He was buried at Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City, Indiana. I found marriage indexes that showed that his children married into the McElligott/Stack/Maloney/Lynch families in Indiana.
My great-great grandfather was also a John Gallivan from Co. Kerry, Ireland & he came to Indiana in the 1850's. He and another John Gallivan went together to apply for citizenship in 1854. For this reason, I believe they were related. I have their Declaration of Intentions, and I need to have some questions answered.
There was a true story past down from "generation-to-generation" that 7-Gallivan men (could be father, uncle, brother, cousin) came to the USA during the famine years. They eventually went their separate ways, living in different States. I am still searching for them.
Because of the many "Gallivan" families in the USA, around 1877 my great-grandfather, also named John Gallivan, started changing the spelling of his surname from "Gallivan-to-Galliven" so his family could locate each other.
