Wow! So what do you know about Juana Gallo? From what my Grandmother told me Juana Gallo and the Colonel hired someone to have Miguel Ceballos (my great grandfather) killed. I also was told that Juana Gallo's real name was Isabel? Do you know her real name? I don't recall what I originally said in the first post but 1896 was the year that they were married. I don't really know how long they were married, I was just told that it was not very long. I don't even know why she tried to kill him. All I can think of is because she wanted to get out of the marriage and take off with the Colonel. Do you know what the Colonel's name was? Would your grandfather know anything? I hope you don't mind me asking you these questions. I'm just trying to find out more about my grandfather's side of the family and it's all very interesting to me. I don't even have any grudges against Juanna Gallo for what she did if it is indeed true.

I have a Rosa Maria Gallo married to Luigi Colonna. No dates but their son Saverio was born in 1787 and married Angela Fiore on 29 September 1810 in Triggiano BA.

Domenico Gallo from Mola di Bari married Caterina Iacovellis (nd) daugher Giovanna Gallo(1818) married Vito Crudele (1826)

Francesca Rosa Gallo (1865) married Vito Costanza in 21 May 1881 then Antonio Masciopinto in 18 October 1884

Angelo & Vincenzina Gallo

Looking for Angelo Gallo born c 1886 in Platania, Italy. He immigrated to Kenosha WI 1906. He married a Vincenzina "Jenny" (last name unknown)they had 2 daughters in Kenosha: Lucina born 9/18/1911 and Maria born 4/30/1913.

I know he came to kenosha to work on the railroad with his uncle Emauello Cerminara (married to Caterina Gallo). Emanuello was killed in 1912, crushed by a train and Angelo was the informant on the death certificate. After the birth of Maria, I loose track of the entire family.

I found Lucy and Maria listed with a Balma-Gallo family and actually found a record saying they were adopted and Angelo was the father. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Seeking information on Angelo, his wife and both daughters.

I am also looking for my ancestors who lived in Fagnano Castello they arrived in New York in 1905. My great grandfather name on the ship manifest was Eduardo Parcella and when his wife and child came over the next year it was at Portella. The reason I am on this thread is because my great grandfather shares a head stone with a Gallo. Thomas Gallo 1902-1935 Edward Portello 1884-1917 If anyone has information on the Gallos or Portello's I would appreciate it.

Second marriage to Giuseppe (Joseph) Gallo in Philadelphia where they remained and raised their family: 4 children survived" Charles 1921-2001; Leon 1924-1986;Marie 1926-2005 and Joseph Jr. 1933-2006. Gaetana (Annie) married Angela Barca. Had 4 children: Mary, Catherine, Marian, Marie. Maria and Gaetana's parents were not admitted to U.S. since her mother had a cataract. They were sent to Rosario, Argentina.

Giuseppe and John Gallo arrived U.S. thru Baltimore, MD circa 1908. Really unsure of the year. Moved to Phila., PA where they married and raised families. John died in his early 40's and Giuseppe (Joseph) died in 1971 at age 79. Would love to know where in Sicily they were born and any family left behind.

The Darr colliery was in Jacobs Creek, Westmoreland county, and this December 19, 1907, accident was a major mine disaster in which 239 weere killed.

Thanks for forwarding the mining accident information.
We were never given the name of the family member that
died in the mining accident but I do know that the family
settled in Windber, Somerset Co.Pa. and worked the mines
in that area from about 1895-1909. My father was born in
a place called Bethel Mines,Pa. I don't believe any of
the mines on the list you sent are in Somerset,Co. The
family continue to use the proper family surname of Folino
Gallo for many years. I seem to remember running across the
name Natallo Folino Gallo in my research during that
time period. I see the name Natalli on the list you forwarded.
Do you have any idea what the proximity of
that mine is to Windber,Pa.?

George J. Gallo

I am looking for information on George J. Gallo, born September 27, 1915 but may be 1919. He was from NJ and I think that his father's name was Joseph as his nickname was Joey. George's parents moved to California at some time but George lived in Tampa, Florida.

P.S. When viewing immigration records, be sure to click one page forward and one page back, because ship manifests were often two pages wide -- so you'll find a lot of important details about the immigrant on the second page. That can help you be sure you have the right person.

You should check the immigration records at Ellis Island's Web site (I find them a bit easier to search than Ancestry's -- once you have figured out the right ones, you can then go back and find the same record on Ancestry, to view much more detail on the original image).

It looks like the last two records could for the same man, going back and forth (which was very common with Italian immigrants -- they would try out America, then go back home, to return again possibly bringing their wives and family members).

Father (Joe) Giuseppe and mother Mary (Maria). I don not know if there are siblings. He was born in 1886 and died in Spencer, West Virginia in 1931. Wife's name was Pricie. Yes, there was intermarriage. My grandparents were cousins - first cousins, I think. My grandfather was Thomas Risi, and he married Carmina Gallo. Her mother was Regina Risi.

Sorry, I have nothing on a Theresa Folina. Was your gggrandfather a Folino Gallo. I have a distant relative Giuseppi Folino Gallo (1873) from Falerna,Italy. Died in Jefferson Co. Pa. in 1958. He was married to a Carmine Maruca who died in 1902. Sorry, that's all I have.

my grandfather was frank gallo born early 1900,s saw my family in sicily around summer of 1970. My great grandfather's surname was Vitarelli. It was changed to Vitraelli in the US. He was from San Marco La Catola, Foggia, Apulia, Italy. I am not certain, but I believe his father was Michele and he had a brother Antonio.

I'd be interested to see if we have a Vitarelli connection.

Thomas Folino Gallo left Falerna, Italy in 1895 with his wife Angelina Cunzolo their children and other extended family members came to the USA and settled near Windber,Pa.. He worked in the mines, had additional children born in Bethel Mines,Pa.that were baptized at the St. John Kanty Catholic Church. Sometime in 1908 he moved his immediate family to south Jersey.It is possible that one of the family members may have been killed in a mining accident. It is very likely that anyone with the surname of Folino Gallo, Gallo or Cunzolo living in the greater Johnstown area or who can trace their ancestory to Falerna, Catanzara, Calabria, Italy is a descendent of Thomas Folino Gallo. My grandmother emigrated from Ravanusa in 1921 with my uncle.(Vita Avarello LaGreca) My Grandfather Cologero LaGreca emigrated 9 years earlier with his cousin Guiseppe Gallo. My grandfather's mother was Giovanna Gallo who married a LaGreca.
If you go to my Grandfather's emigration record you will find Guiseppe's record. look in my tree. I would like more information on the Gallo side if we are related and you would share

My G grandfather was Francesco Gallo of Cosenza Calabria Italy. He married Mariantonia Fabiano and immigrated to the US on May 15, 1893. They settled in Kingston, NY. He was a tavern owner and a farmer. Much of the family is still in Kingston

JOHN GALLO
Mr. John Martin Gallo, 74, passed away Sept. 13, 2009 at VA Loma Linda due to complications from COPD. He was a resident of Hesperia for eight years.
He was born Sept. 7, 1935 in New York City, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1953 to 1957, and was a retired business owner.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Gallo; son Jay of Canoga Park; daughter Mary Francis of North Carolina; sister Dorothy Bossio of Stratford, Conn.; two nieces and one nephew; and two grandchildren.
Burial took place Sept. 21, 2009 at Riverside National Cemetery. A memorial potluck will be held for John and friends of Bill W. from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11 at Sante Fe Mobile Home Park in Hesperia.
