*FREE* mtDNA Test Available for Umbilical Descendant of Dorcas (Collins) Gallop, wife of Nathaniel-4 Gallop (..., John-1)

*FREE* mtDNA Test Available for Umbilical Descendant of Dorcas (Collins) Gallop, wife of Nathaniel-4 Gallop (Benjamin-3, Nathaniel-2, John-1)

The purpose of the “Dorcas (—) Andrews & Umbilical Descendants” Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) Project is to develop a genetic “mtDNA signature” for Dorcas (—) Andrews based on mtDNA test results from multiple umbilical descendants. By comparing mtDNA from known umbilical descendants of Dorcas with mtDNA from her probable or possible umbilical descendants, we can confirm or refute theoretical or ambiguous lines of descent that have been developed through conventional genealogical research using indirect evidence.

Unfortunately, the mtDNA of Project Participant #1, a *PROBABLE* umbilical descendant of Dorcas (—) Andrews, and the mtDNA of Project Participant #2, a *POSSIBLE* descendant of Dorcas (—) Andrews, do not match. Thus, we need at least one more Project Participant to confirm if either the probable or possible umbilical descendant of Dorcas (—) Andrews (or neither!) is a biological descendant of Dorcas. A *FREE* Mitochondrial DNA test is available to the first candidate qualified to become Project Participant #3!

Dorcas (—) Andrews, wife of James-2 Andrews (Samuel-1)
|
Jane-3 (Andrews) (Alger) Davis, wife of Andrew-2 Alger (Andrew-1) and Robert-2 Davis
|
Dorcas-3 (Alger) Collins, wife of Matthew-2 Collins (Matthew-1)
|
Dorcas-3 (Collins) Gallop, wife of Nathaniel-4 Gallop (Benjamin-3, Nathaniel-2, John-1)

For more information, please visit the project page at…

http://www.perrystreeter.com/andrews/mtdna/

Perry Streeter (perry@streeter.com)
www.perry.streeter.com

Hi Germaine
Did you know that we have not proved a relationship between the Gallops in Harbour Breton and ours from Fortune. Our William Gallop married Mary Kearly around 1795 when their first child was born. The William Gallop in Harbour Breton came before 1835 and was from Dorset. and was a factor for Newman and sons. They were also in Gaultois. It was in 1835 that William Gallop with Newman's went with Rev. Wix to Codroy and where my William Gallops first 3 children were received in to the C of E. In Fortune they were Wesleyan Methodists.
I am the great grand daughter of John Gallop and his 2nd wife Sarah Evans His first wife was Charlotte Galpin . My grandmother was Marcella Gallop born in Codroy and she married John Henry Eustace, My mother was Mina Williams Eustace their first child born in 1909
Was Baby Germaine Gallop born Oct 9 1976, died Dec 4 1976 named after you?
There are several Morgan Gallops in my tree. The Morgan born 1880 son of John and Sarah and brother to my grandmother who left home and was never heard from again in our history. Morgan who was killed in WW1 in France. ( I think he was a brother to John Alfred and knew a Rose Kennedy on Hagerty Street) and Morgan who married Lavina Bennett is your family I also have a Morgan son of Henry and Mary Margaret. HELP I'm confused!
My Gallop Tree is on Ancestry. My Grrant Tree is my working tree with over 7 thousand names. I am in the process og dividing into each family,Would love to share and please correct my errors

We have three children Levina(Dollie ) Gallop, Crystal Gallop Purcell live in Halifax. Jeremy Gallop lives In Calgary . Gordie Gallop son of Gordon Gallop also lives in Calgary. These are the only two Gallop men to follow the Gallop Name.
The Gallops in NL started with William Gallop in Fortune. Then to Codroy in 1835. The female line stayed in Fortune. Daisy (residence Codroy) married Gerrard Patry 14 April 1930 in the Roman Catholic Church in Upper ferry. Morgan Gallop married Dorothy Lavina Bennett. I believe their children are Mildred Samms, Marcella Patten, Ada Mc Donald, Sylvia Morris , Kyrl and Germaine in Halifax( your line) Sophia and Clifford Gordon in Ontario and Etta Colburn. Please let me know if this information is correct
Pat, in Michigan

Mandi I believe the Gallop, Clench and Veales are all from the area around Bere Regis, Winterbourn Kingston and Anderson in Dorset. A Joshua Gallop married Ann Clench 5 Jan 1802 and on 16 Oct 1592 a Willliam Veale married a Luce Clench in Bere Regis
The names I have for Emily's children are those on the 1881 census for Deptford, Kent. I have Edward Francis Baker Gallop married in 1896 in England to Alice Trowell daughter of Charles TRowell of New Cross
In 1866 W.J. Gallop gave 3 pounds and Edward Clench Gallop gave 10 shillings to the Cof E in Gaultois. In the same yar William was the Consulate for Portugal from Harbour Breton

Would love to share
Pat, in Michigan

William Gallop who went with the Rev. Wix on his visit to the outports in 1835 was an agent for Newman and Co. and a graduate of the Free Naval School attached to Greenwich Hospital in England. He had an 8 oared gig. It was on this trip that they went to Cpdroy and the first 3 children of my William Gallop who married Jane Samms were received into the C. of E. Previous generations had been in the Methodist Church in Fortune.

Maria Gallop died 11 Dec 1866 age 27. She is buried in Hermitage, NL
Thomas Clench Gallop married Elizabeth Veale in Dartmouth She the daughter of Thomas Veale and Agnes Passmore
Edward Clench Gallop Esquire was the executor of a will 29 July 1878 in Hermitage, Gaultios. 1894 he was with Newman and Co.. He was in Harbour Breton in 1898Mary Elizabeth Gallop his wife died 18 Feb 1891 and is buried in Hertimage
Edward supposedly went to a private school in England
Thomas Clench Gallop died age 52 June 1891 in Barton Regis, Gloustershire. He was iat 83 Queen Street in Woolborough, Devon

I see no mention of William Porter Curtis GALLOP who was born to William Joshua and Emily (no surname on baptism certificate which I have) in early 1871, baptized may 14, 1871 in Harbour Breton. He was my great grandfather and I also have a copy of a baptism certificate for his elder sister, Emily maria veal born on may 5, 1869 and baptized June 13 in Harbour Breton – I have a copy of her death certificate (she died in 1946 aged 77, a spinster)

I have a copy of the marriage certificate for William Porter Curtis GALLOP marrying Emily Clare Bellingham in London on June 8, 1901.

I am also researching GALLOP in NL. There appear to be 2 ,likely connected, families. Yours who were connected to Newman and Co. firm in the early 1800's and my line of William Gallops that were there in the late 1700's

Here is some of what I have on your William and Maria and their line
William Joshua Gallop married Sarah, possibly Sarah Jane, Organ 1831 . He died 2 Sept 1857 and is buried in Furby's cove, Hermitage Bay. Supposedly had 2 children, John 1830 and William Joshua 1831 both in Gaultois.

William Joshua and Maria had 3 sons. William Joshua 1859-1870 who died in Winterborne- Kingston and is buried there. Charles Veale Gallop 1859 and Thomas Clench 1865
Maria died 1870 and William then Married Emily Baker Mullins daughter of Randolph John Mullins of HM Customs. They were married in St Clement Dane in London. They lived in Deptford Kent in 1881 and had Edward, Curtis, Harry, and Emily Maria

William Joshua Gallop was with Newman and Co and was also a JP, on the Board of Road Commissioners and Coronor in Harbour Breton. He received a Crown Land Grant 17 July 1872.

My William Gallop left ship in the Lamaline Roads and walked over land to Fortune where he married Mary Kearly . Their first child was born in 1795 in Fortune. We do not know for sure if it was a British, Canadian or American ship. The first Gallops in the New World were those from Stroud Dorset that came on the Mary and John in 1630. Later some of these Gallops were Royalists and went to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Some remained in Mass. and Conn and some went to the Carolinas and Texas. The naming patterns in New Brunswick are the same as those in Boston, Newfoundland and Dorset. Many Williams, Joshuas, Henrys, and Johns.

I am in contact with some Gallops in Nova Scotia and Ontario who are cousins of mine. It would be interesting if DNA could be obtained from the males and compared with yours males (if any)
My Gallop tree is on Ancestry. ALso my Grant tree which is my working tree.
Pat, in Michigan

Your posting of Sept 11, 2011 makes mention of Hanna Parsons McLean Gallop who married John Ryan at St. Ann's on Sept 29, 1879. John Ryan is my great-great grandfather. Their daughter, Annie, is my great grandmother who moved to Eastern Passage, NS and married Walter Naugle. Do you know where and when John Ryan was born and died? I know that his father was Michael Ryan, but do not know who his mother was.
Hanna moved to Halifax, NS about 1907 with Nora, Francis and Edward Ryan and she died on Dec 21, 1930. Do you know where she was born and her parent's names?
Any info would be appreciated

Thanks as usual Pat. Your messages are always so informative. The organized way you presented your recent message really helps. Thomas Gallop and Catherine Anne Samms are my great grandparents. Their son George is brother to my grandmother Hannah (Annie) Gallop. Nelson John Gallop was a cousin of Annie's that I knew as a child. Is he the son of your John Gallop? That would make him my grandmother's first cousin. For some reason my father actually thought Nelson might actually by ANnie's nephew not cousin. My father received a letter from Isaac Kendell back in the late 70's. Isaac told my father that Nelson Gallop's mother's name was Clarissa Valetta Magdalene Moore Gallop. Perhaps this was Anglicized to Margaret. Nelson only had 2 daughters so I don't know if DNA sample would help locate his mother's family. Each of Nelson's daughters have one son. I've recently found them and we are all wondering what "type" of cousins we are. They also are curious about their ethinicity as they know nothing about Nelson's family. I will take another look at your Tree as it's been a while. Thanks for your help. I will email you soon.

Thomas Gallop b abt 1840 son of Wiilliam and Jane (Samms) GAllop brother to my great grandfather John Gallop
. Died 24 Oct 1917 at age 84 of Heart Failure. Married Catherine Samms ( b 26 Apr 1835and had a son George who married Minnie Dalton. Also a daughter Marcella b 10 June 1884 bap !0 Aog 1884, Thomas Gallop born 1892 12 Dec died of Dyptheria in 1887 age 5. Daughter Mary Jane born 5-11-1880 died 12-6 1965became converted to the Roman Catholic Church ( St Ann's) 10 Nov 1892. Her Godmother was Hannah Ryan. Hanna Parsons Mc Lean Gallop was the widow of William Gallop when she married John Ryan son of Michael at St Ann's on 29 Sept 1879. Ann Ryan born 6-4 1880, Nora 1883I have Nelson Gallop as the stepson of Thomas Kendell born July 1901. Margaret Gallop married Thomas Kendell. Nelson was raised with Noah and Isaac Kendell

John Gallop and Thomas were the sons of William Gallop who was the son of William Gallop and Mary Kearley. Rhey lived in Fortune until William and Jane moved to Codroy in 1835. The records are in the Methodist Church in Fortune. William and Jane and their first 3 children were received into the Cof W wheb Rev. Wx and another William Gallop made a circuit of NL in March of 1835. Only John , Joshua and Mary were born in Fortune. Ben, Henry, Thomas, Hannah and Mariah were born in Codroy

There appear to be 2 connected Gallop lines in NL. Those from Dorset who were with Newman and Co. and my branch from the William who jumped ship and married Mary Kearley who's first child was born in 1795. Both families used the same names for many of the children. At this time Fred Gallop is planning have having his DNA done to see if we matcj up to the Gallops in Doset and Kent or the Gallops in Boston in 1630, or the Gallops who were Royalists and left the US for New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Then there are the Gallops of North Carolina, Connecticut, Vermont, Maine and Texas.
You can contact me at mpgrant@woway,com

My Gallop tree is on Ancestry
Some of this from Peter Crosland another Gallop reseacher

My family is from Codroy (probably moved there from FOrtune or Galtoise Bay). I'm looking for info on the parents of ThomasGallop who was married to Catherine Samms. Also info on the parents of Nelson Gallop. I'd appreciate anything you have, if you discovered Gallops in those areas. Thank you.

Hi. Patricia (Pat) Grant has a good handle on this side of the family. Check the Grant family tree or the Gallop family tree. The "Grant" one is more detailed.

Fred

I am also trying to track history on this William Gallop. Have you had any luck finding information on him. I found information on Mary Kearley but not William.

Hi,
I have looked up Benjamin Gallop on my Sussex Marriages CD and he was married to ANN PHILLIPS on 31st August 1816 at All Saints Church. Hope this helps.
I lived in Hastings and there is no St James Church there. In 1851 he was living at Swains Passage with his wife but no children present. He was born c1797.

Mary.
