standinghorse,
I'm a daughter of your grandmother's brother Woody. Are you Arleta's or Vi's grandchild? The name is probably French according to researchers who've documented the earliest immigrant to Massachusetts in the mid 1600's. Odd thing is that Reuben even thought the name was French. Reuben's father William was orphaned before he was 10 and was probably too young to remember much of any family history that may have been told him by his father Charles. Have you seen Charles'grave at the Riley Farm Cemetery off Dunbar Road? There is no marker for Charles' wife Fanny White Galusha who dies between 1861 and 1865. William was farmed out to his mothers's parents Sam and Margaret White, then to his mother's sister Melvina White Hughs. William saw a lot of deaths in his young life. Not only his parents, but also his grandparents and his Uncle Addison White who died while a prisoner in the Civil War. I have a family tree on Ancestry.com if you have an account let me know and I'll send you an invitation to view it. I could use some help with Arleta and Viola's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's names and dates. I've just discovered this post that you left in 2002. Sorry I missed it all these years. Barbara
