Wm James Galway (1848 - 1930) was the son of Wm J. Galway and Eliz. Nuttall; he married Rebecca Woodhouse (1844 - ?) on May 5, 1869. Their children were:

William H. b 2-16-1870
George Wesley (1871 -1959) m Caroline Hall
James b 5-21- 1873
Edward Benj. b 10-16-1874
Robert b 6-21-1881
Bertha b 3-2-1886
Ethel b 2-8-1888

Some family members believe that James Galway remarried after his wife's death to a widow, Margaret Elliott. James Galway died in Gananoque and was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery.

I have a Terence Gallagher and Mary or Margaret Ryan having a child in Springvale, Kildorrery, Cork, in 1829. I also have a Terence Gallagher of Kilcruaig, Limerick, (RC parish of Glenroe)who married Ellen Keppel, of Old Castletown, Kildorrery, Cork, in 1826.The latter would have been the son of Thomas Gallagher. One branch of the family from Ballinoulty, Kildorrery, Cork, used the name Galway for many years: Maurice, John, and Thomas were names often used.

I actually have two Gallagher families, but only one of them used the name Galway as well as Gallagher. Sometimes (I am told) families did that to distinguish themselves from another line of the same family or from a different family altogether, but one who had the same name. In the family that used Galway, we trace back to Maurice Gallagher. The names John and Thomas were repeated often in this family, and later the names Michael, Bartholomew, and Terence were used. They were in the parish of Kildorrery, Cork, and some moved across the border and lived in the townlands of Kilcruaig and Houndscourt in the parish of Glenroe and Ballyorgan. Jan

In my Gallagher family, some members, for a few years, were recorded as "Galway," especially on land records. They lived mainly in the parish of Kildorrery, Cork. One branch moved almost next door, which turned out to be in the next county - Limerick, the parish of Glenroe and Ballyorgan. The first names in this family tended to be John, Thomas, Terence, and Maurice. If anyone thinks they might be connected to this family, I would love to hear from them. Jan

Some of my Gallagher family were written up as "Galway" at different times. Do you know if you trace back to Galway or Gallagher? This particular family settled in Ballynoulty, Kildorrery, Cork and later moved just over the border to the parish of Glenroe and Ballyorgan in Co. Limerick. Jan

William Galway, 58, a native of North Tonawanda, died at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Niagara County Infirmary at Lockport of heart disease. He spent last winter at the institution and this spring went to Newfane to do farm work, returning ill on July 12. There are no known relatives.

The Mary in our family tree was born in Ireland in 1867, so it appears she does not fit with your New Zealanders. Sorry!

I don't have info past this I'm afraid but I'm wondering if your Edward is a descendant of William? I know this family emigrated from Ireland, but not how far back..
Perhaps my Edward is a son/grandson of William or his brother....do you have more info on his descendants?

Her parents were James Galway and Lottie Emerald Galway (nee Goring). James' bother Gerald lived nearby with his wife Gladys as well as his sister Lily Galway who married Harold ?. The parents also lived around the corner, but I do not have their names.....

I have had NO luck in researching the Galway line and your posting is the closest thing I've found to a possible connection......
Does this sound familiar?
The only other info is the possibility of a brother to James named Gerald?
I'm not sure if he was born in Ontario, but I know they married in Ontario.....Lottie grew up in St. Catherines b. 1897.

We have traced my husband's family back to Francis Galway of Jerome, Indiana; served in the US Civil War. Believed born 1823 in either Ireland, England or Isle of Man. Mother was Mary; father, Moore; brother, Moore (dob 3-17-1827). Elder Moore (Galloway) christened 3 Aug 1783 Malew, Isle of Man; married Mary Edgerley 14 Dec.1818, St. Alkmund, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.Younger Moore born in Galway; spelling of last name changes here. Father of elder Moore listed as Richd Galloway, christened 17 July 1734, Lechlade, Gloucester, England; Richd married Ann Towers; (He is possibly son of another Francis).Anecdotal info: Francis Galway leaves England (probably Ireland, since Moore b. in Galway) age 7 for 7 years at sea until age 14. Indentured servant???? Known: Brothers Francis and Moore owned farms across the highway from one another in Jerome. Military papers list Francis' birthplace as Philadelphia...more likely port of entry. Anyone with connections to this family?

Hang in there. They are building a house just above the trailor house. Once she gets that done than she will start getting the emails sent again. I have been looking for Peter Galloway. If you are not a subscriber to Ancestry.com, for 10 days they have a free trial period. It could be helpful because where it says pay on some of the info you can look into that. Look for Peter Galloway from Colombus, Nebraska and then maybe go to New Jersey. Maybe around Trenton. I don't know if that will help.

Do you, by the way live in Idaho? I am married to Shawn Gothard who's mother is a Galloway and the Peter C. married Emma Wilson. There actually is quite a bit of information on Peter C.. Debbie Galloway has a lot of the family history and when she gets the house that they are doing done then she is going to get things together. I am also interested in the information. They are buried in a little cemetery south of Kilgore, Nebraska. Peter Galloway, the father is buried at Colombus, Nebraska. There is a curious fact that somebody may be able to answer maybe?? Peter Galloway could have had 2 girls and a boy besides the Peter and James that were related. I wonder what happened to them? It may be kind of difficult to find out but could be very interesting. Linda- I know of a marriage between George Galway and Jane Mercer Feb 11, 1855 that produced at least 10 children, one of whom was a William John Galway, although his birthdate was not available. Three of these children were girls. Maria b September 15,1875; Mary b August 4, 1867; and Anne b?. The marriage took place in St. John's church, Parish of Agaloo, Diocese of Armagh,NI.
