I would be so appreciative of any information you could provide. (Looks like we are cousins in some way.) I am very new to the entire research process so if I do not do things the right way please feel free to correct my mistakes. Rebecca Anne Anthony Galyen Jordan was my maternal great grandmother, and I am interested in anything having to do with her first husband Jeffrey W. Galyen and his line. I would also love to know Rebecca Anthony's father's name, I only know her mother's. Now, Redvdub1 gave me a WEALTH of information in recent weeks, but my father passed away two weeks ago, and I have not had time to completely process all the information I was given. Alford Galyen would have been my 2 great grandfather. I'd love to share what little I have and hear what you know about our family. Thanks so much!

Re: Molly Jane Young married Yancey Galyen

Yancy Galyen was the son of Wm. Henderson and Eliz. Telitha Hodges who were married in Surry Co,NC on 2-20-1852. Wm. Henderson was killed in the Civil War and Yancy and his siblings were raised by the Hodges family. I am glad to know that Yancy married as I had no info on that. I would be interested in the details of his lineage for my records.

Wm. Henderson was (probably) a son to Wm. Toliver and Nancy Rector Gallion and Wm. Toliver was a son to Samuel and Molly Gallion. Samuel was born ca. 1862 probably in Galax, VA. Samuel was the next to the youngest son of Jacob and Eliz. Arnold Gallion who were married ca. 1753 in what is now called Harford Co., MD. Jacob and Eliz. moved ca. 1760 to VA and by 1775 were in Surry Co., VA. Jacob was born ca. 1733 in Harford Co. to Thomas and Mary Young Gallion who themselves were wed ca. 1732 also in Harford Co. Thomas was born ca. 1707 in Harford Co. to John and Mary (Wright?) Gallion and John was born ca. 1670 (probably) to Joseph Gallion and either a Sarah or Alice ?
Joseph was the original Gallion immigrant to America coming to Baltimore Co., MD (Bush River) in 1664 from London, England where he was born ca. 1633 as the youngest son of Wm. and Joanne Palmer Gallion who themselves were married c a. 1615 in Chigwell, Essex. Wm. was born ca. 1590 in London to unknown parents and there the thing stops. We do know that there London Gallions back as far as 1330 and there is a record of a Galyon in England ca. 1167. The name is considered to be of French origin with the French spelling being Gallienne.

Dawn.. I have a 1982 letter from Stephen W. Galyen then of Richmond, VA. He states that Rebecca Anthony was the wife of one Jeffrey W. Galyen (b. 1869-d. 1920) and that they had children Asenath, Grady, Everett, Bernice, Henry, Arnold, and Violet. Jeffrey was the son of Alford Galyen and either his 1st wife, Mary Minter, or his 2nd wife, Betty Ramey. Alford was born in 1839 and died in 1907..where I don't know..he shows in none of the census listings that I have. Alford was son to Samuel Galyen (jr.) and Eliz. Thorp. Sam jr. was son to Samuel (sr.) and Molly Galyen and Sam sr. was son to Jacob and Eliz. Arnold Galyen of Surry Co., NC. This line has been difficult to trace due to their no shows in NC or VA censi. Stephen Galyon was, by the way, son to Arnold P. Galyen and Grace M. Bowman. I can take you back from Jacob Galyon to the original Gallion immigrant to America..one Joseph Gallion...if you wish. Joseph came to America (Bush River, Maryland) in 1664 from London, England.

I am looking for information about my great-grandmother, Rebecca Anne Anthony Galyen Jordan, born in Tazewell County, Virginia in 1886. She was married to *** Galyen (I do not have his first name) and was widowed, then married a man I know only as Mr. Jordan. Her children included Arnold P. Galyen and Violet Galyen Martin. I believe that her mother's name was Maggie Hill. Any help is greatly appreciated, I have hit a dead end.

Replies can be sent to kotasma@msn.com.

Thanks,
Dawn Turner

Molly Jane Young married Yancey Galyen

I have looked through the posts on this site, and found some info on Molly and Yancey. I wasn't sure if the people who posted them would even get an email from me, because most of the ones I saw were from years ago (with no recent posts listed for them). So, I decided to try it this way.
I know Molly and Yancey married on Dec. 30, 1883. I also know where they are buried. According to the 1910 Watauga Co., NC census, they had 11 children, but only 10 were still alive. I even have names for 10 children. The only child who I have additional info on is Arthur (who married Minnie L. about 1905). I have his children's names, and some of their children's names.
Is there anyone who can fill me in on more info than that? If so, I would greatly appreciate it! I would really like to find out something, even if it's just something small, about every child of Molly and Yancey.
Molly's parents were Solomon Wood Young and Mary Aulena McCoin, and they are my great-great grandparents! So, if you need anything about her brothers & sisters, I can probably help.
Thanks for your time!

I am searching for the relationship between Ranson Henry Galyen (b. circa 1850) and John W. Galyen (b. abt. 1817).
Both Ranson and John lived in Walnut, Adair County, Missouri in the 1880's. Ranson Galyen was married to Phoebe Stage and John was married to a Sarah. John's parents Willian Galyen (b. abt. 1806) and mother Catharine (b. abt. 1807) were living in John Galyen's household at the time.

If anyone can establish the relationship between Ranson Henry Galyen and John W.
In your responce to my inquiry about Ranson Henry Galyen, you indicated "John W's father Thomas died in Overton....."
According to the 1880 LDS census William Galyen was the father of John W. Galyen and Catharine the mother. It is my confusion. I am an amateur at this.

I have the decendents of Charles Rosco Galyen, the son of Ranson. I will share this information with anyone interested. I know nothing about Ranson Henry Galyen or his ancestry.
Did Ranson have other children besides Charles Rosco?

A pedigree chart of Ranson would clear up my confusion about his ancestry.

Mel Kelly
melkelly@nemr.net
Re: Ranson Henry Galyen

I can understand your doubts about Ransom Henry's pedigree. We are dead certain that John W. was Ransom's father and that William and Catherine were William and Catherine Crall. This is documented from the Federal census data. John W. first shows up in the 1840 Adair Co., Mo. census. Cullen Galyen of Memphis is a descendant. Cullen has been at this business since about 1970 and I have been at it since 1984.

Cullen builds a very strong circumstantial case for a connection between John W. of Adair C o., Mo. and the Vermillion Co., Ill. Galyens and from them back to the early 19th century Jackson-Overton Co., TN Gallions. I feel he is correct. There are very few Gallions/Galyens/Galyons around in those days and the 1835 tax record in Vermillion for a John Gallion is a good piece of data tying said John W. to Vermillion Co.

There are simply no known William and Catherine Gallions around in the time frame (1815) of John W.'s birth in TN. None. I'm afraid the LDS data base has been somewhat "polluted" by inputs that I cannot verify although I have tried. And there is no such thing as an LDS census. What they may have is a transcribed Soundex listing for the Federal 1880 census which lists a William and Catherine as in-laws to John W. and Sarah (nee Isley) Hilt Galyen. The Sndx. probably didn't list the last names of William and Catherine. Their last names were Crall. Catherine was Sarah's mother, not John W.'s mother. William Crall was Catherine's 2nd husband, her first husband was a William Hilt. I have that from some family input (I cannot put my finger on that record right now but I probably could dig it out of my files if I had to).

You have to be careful of the LDS lineages. Their marriage and property records are useful. Ditto their military listings for wars. However, their family files are really pretty bad for the Gallions.

Re: Ranson Henry Galyen

Hello..your Ransom Henry Galyen was son to John W. Galyen and his 2nd wife Eliza Jane "Sally" Linder. John W. was most probably a son to a Thomas and Sarah Huckaby Galyen. The William and Catherine you refer to were Wm. and Catherine Crall. Catherine was nee Isley and 1st married to a Hilt. Wm. Crall was Catherine's 2nd husband. Sarah nee Hilt was John W.'s 3rd wife (she had originally been married to a Steed).

We think that your John W. served in the so-called Blackhawk War in Ill. ca. 1832 and that he also appeared in an 1835 Vermillion Co., Ill. tax record. We think that John W.'s father Thomas died in the Overton Co., TN area ca. 1815-20. Said Thomas was either a son to a Jacob Gallion or a Thomas Gallion. Either way, said Thomas was grandson to Jacob and Elizabeth Arnold Gallion of the 1790 Surry Co., NC census. Jacob and Eliz. were married ca. 1753 in Harford Co., Md. Jacob was born ca. 1733 in Harford Co. to a Thomas and Mary Young Gallion who themselves were married ca. 1731 also in Harford Co. Thomas was born ca. 1707 to a John and Mary (poss. nee Wright) Gallion also of Harford Co. John in turn was born ca. 1670 most probably to the original immigrant to America, one Joseph Gallion. Said Joseph was born ca. 1633 in London, England to a William and Joanne Palmer Gallion who themselves were married ca. 1615 in Chigwell, Essex (just slightly to the NW of "old" London). Wm. was born in London ca. 1592 to unknown parents.

For over thirty years I have tried to find the maiden name of my great-great grandmother, Elizabeth, the wife of I. J. Galyen. While researching the Powell line today I found this information listed on KY 1917 death certificate of Parlitha Galyen Powell, daughter of I. J. & Elizabeth. Elizabeth's maiden name was TIBBS. The death certificate states that Elizabeth was born in TN, as was her husband I. J.

Parlitha is buried at Smith's Cemetery, the same cemetery as her father. I have long suspected that Elizabeth is buried in the same cemetery, since there is an unmarked grave next to I. J. Parlitha's sister Nancy is also buried in this cemetery located at the edge of Butler County, KY.

R. was a vet of the Civil War (CSA) who was severely wounded at Chickamaugua as a lieutenant in the Reb infantry. He obviously survived and became a distinguished citizen in Sangamon Co., Ill. I think I know who Wm. R.'s parents were but I don't have source documentation...they were Isaac J. and Eliz. Galyen of the 1850 KY. census.

George T.
Hi! I am researching my family tree. I have a John W. Gaylen who I believe was married to Loretta Phelps. I think they lived somewhere in Illinios as the daughter of these 2 was born in Quincy, Illinios in 1893. Her name is Violet. If anyone has any information, please email me. Thanks in advance.
