I am looking for the origins of a Gamache Family who ended up in Holyoke, MA. I have Joseph (m.n. possibly Armand) Gamache, married to Mathilde Robert (no dates). They had a son, Francois (m.n. possibly Xavier) Gamache born in Canada or Vermont, in 1862, and his wife Octavie Guenette born in Quebec, Canada in 1872. They had a son, Joseph Armand Gamache, who went by his middle name Armand, born 1905. He was married to Theresa Counter.

Any information on connections would be great!

I am looking for some Gamache's with some of the same names... I have a Joseph (possibly Armand middle name) Gamache married to Matilda Robert, no dates. The had a son Francois (Possibly Xavier middle name) Gamache born 1862 in Canada, and his wife Octavie Guenette born 1872. They had a son, Joseph Armand who went by Armand born 1905 Holyoke, MA married to Theresa Counter. Any possible relation??

Joseph was the s/o Napoleon Gamache and Marie-Olive Belair.
Annie was the d/o John Jodoin and Arthemise Soucy. Jordway was an American variant of Jodoin. Names were often spelled as they sounded in English.

Hello.....anyone who can help.

My name is Tom Gamache. I am trying to complete my family tree and have hit a wall at my Great Grandfather, Joseph Arthur Gamache (1881 or 1882 - October 1955). I know my Great Grandmother's first name is Annie, but when researching that part I find two different last names listed in different locations - Jodoin and Jordway. I believe Annie was born in 1882. I also believe Joseph Arthur Gamache was the son of Napoleon Gamache.

I would appreciate any assistance gathering some information.

I have been trying to solve a "family story" mystery saying Jean Baptiste Gamache is an ancestor. (Please follow this thread back to 27/28 August 2005) That thread speaks of an Indian woman named Mi-no-rah. Can you tell me the names of the children of Mya and Jean Baptiste Gamache and the approximate time frame we are talking about? One possible link is an approximately 20 year old woman (in l885) with the maiden name of Mary E. Williams from DeSoto, MO in Jefferson County.

I am very happy to receive your post. I had given up hope of hearing from anyone regarding this. Have you been able to find a legal name for the lady you refer to as Mya? Do you know if one of the descendants of Jean Baptiste Gamache and Mya had a child named Mary E. Williams? Her father's name was George, and I cannot read her mother's name. They are listed on the 1880 Census of Plattin Township, Jefferson County, Missouri. She was married to my great grandfather, John A. Vahey, in DeSoto, MO on 25 November 1885. We think this is our link, but cannot officially make the connection.

Hello, I am a descendent of the marriage between Jean Baptiste Gamache and Mya, his Indian wife. My great grandparents had love letters from Jean to Mya. I will try to get the letters to copy and send to you. I know that my grandfather also donated many letters to history museums, so I will have to track these down. I have been told that Mya was the Indian princess of that tribe.
I am very green on all of this, so by all means I will do and get the info I can to clear anything up. Thank you and please reply soon.

Jean Baptiste came from Fort Chartre Illinois, when the Americans moved into that Territory the French moved across the rive and founded St. Louis Missouri. He was among those first who founded St. Louis.

I believe you mean Tamaroa tribe. From Wikipedia: The Tamaroa were a Native American tribe in the central Mississippi River valley of North America, and a member of the Illiniwek or Illinois Confederacy of twelve to thirteen tribes.

An Algonquian-speaking group, like the rest of the Illiniwek, they lived on both sides of the Mississippi River in the area of the confluence with the Illinois and Missouri rivers. Two leaders of the Tamaroa were among those who signed the treaty of 1818, by which the various groups of the Illiniwek ceded about half of the present state of Illinois to the United States. Descendants of the Tamaroa later merged with other, larger tribes of the Illiniwek, such as the Peoria. As a consequence of the forced Indian removal in the 1830s, their descendants are to be found mostly in Oklahoma, as the Confederated Peoria Tribe
I have no proof that any Gamache of that time married an Indian.

Her parents were elizabeth pope who married mr gamache in 1901. mary georgina gamache was born in 1902, about 11 months after they married in i believe alberta, canada. my great grandma mary georgina came to shelton, mason county, washington in 1927 where she married edward james buchanan in 1920.

Your Great-grandfather I think would be a sibling to my Great-grandfather Cyprien-Philias Gamache. I don't know that much about the Dumontier family. I don't have access to Canadian records with my minimal subscription to Ancestry.com.

Jean-Baptiste Gamache and Zoe Dumontier would be my great-great grandparents. Their son Deodat(Joseph Louis-Deodat) had a son named after him, Joseph Louis Deodat Gamache, who was my grandfather.
I have alot of information on Jean Baptiste Gamache and Zoe Dumontiers families.
I have their parents, grandparents, great,great-great,and great3x, all the way back to France. I just don't have siblings.

In an 1880 Manchester N H census Cyprien-Philias was listed with siblings, Jean-Baptiste, Napolean, Adeline Philomene, Gilda' Cedulie and Deodat.

his parents are Jean Baptiste and Zoe (Dumontier) Gamache.

My family is from pincher creek, alberta and would like as much information as possible. my great aunt has done some research but hasnt gotten very far, she was able to get as far back as the 1700s and would like to go back farther. my great granmother was mary georgina gamache, born in canada on june 22, 1902. she married on her 18th birthday in 1920 and passed away january 12, 2000. please, any information would be very very helpful. for anybody also looking, there is a book called prairie grass to mountain pass, and there is a section in there about my grandma and uncle gus hearing the sounds of the train and taking off to parts unknown. if you know how to get a copy of this book or information from it, please contact me at Sara_Sheetz@msn.com

I had a relative who lived in Escanaba, Mich., or the surrounding area as the photo was taken in a studio located in Escanaba. I do not know his name, but he would have been related to the Gamaches from Plessisville, PQ, to my grandparents, Marie (Trespanier) and Simeon Gamache.

I believe I had a relative living in Escanaba Michigan, but this goes way back, perhaps to the 1880's, judging by the quality of the photograph. I do not know this gentleman's name, but he would have been my great uncle and brother of Simeon Gamache, who lived in Plessisville, PQ.

My name is Robert Gamache and I grew up in Taunton, MA. There were several families of Gamaches in Taunton, but none of them were related, to the best of my knowledge. However, I did have a distant relative, Tommy Nolan, who played in the TV western, Buckskin, back in the late 1950's/early 1960's. I did have relatives living in western MA-- Pittsfield, I believe.

I live in Worcester, MA, but my grandfather is Roland Gamache, who is the son of Fernand and Bertha. Roland had six children, five boys and my mother. My mother, Karen Gamache, married Robert Rouleau, Jr. and had myself and my sister.

So, I can be found on Facebook as Brian Rouleau. As far as I'm aware, there's no skeletons in the closet, but our knowledge of Fernand was intriguing - he celebrated two birthdays (one in January and one in February) and until I started this thread, his parents were shrouded in mystery.

Sorry it is me again. We are related to the Jalbert and that is correct as to where he is from. I didn't think he was born there in St Jean Port Joli. I thought just my grandmother we.
He fought in the first world War and I have a picture of him in uniform and I have many other pictures as well.
Where are you from. I have tons of cousins in St Jean who I have not seen in years. I am thinking you don't have the right great grandfather. Unless he had a child out of wed-lock. A skeleton in the closet. Please let me know.

I am trying to find out who is Lawrence William Gamache. Passed away on January 6,2010 at hospital in Winnipeg. He was 86 years old. There is no information who his parents were. I would like to find out.
