My great great grandfather:
Frank Gamba born 1835 Italy.Arrived in the United States at the age of 15 at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, settled in Iberville Parish, Louisiana. At the age of 21, in Iberville Parish became a naturalized citizen on 6-May-1857. At St John Catholic Church in Plaquemine, Iberville Parish he married Carmelite Diaz daughter of Antoine Diaz and Carmelite Hernandez. This document list Frank as the son of Jean Gamba and Adelaine Pardouci. Witnesses at the wedding were A. Sessargo, A. Canesa, Mary Protolongo, and Amchi Mayot. On this document Frank's name is listed as Francis Gamba. On the 1870 cenus he is listed as Frank Gambard living at Bayou Goula, Iberville Parish. In the 1880 cenus he is listed as Francisco Gamba in 3rd Ward, town Plaquemine, Iberville Parish. He is on the 1878 census of Iberville Parish listed as Frank Gamba. On all these census he has his wife and children with him. He worked at the local saw mill and operated a ferry on the Mississippi River in that area. He left his family and traveling to Italy died on the way around 1882. His trunk was returned to Plaquemine but his family did not go pick it up. His parents were born in Italy. In his naturalization papers it states he is a subject of Prince Potentate of Sergenty.I am probably not spelling that correct. I am searching for any contacts in Italy that would have the Gamba and Pardouci surnames in their family. I have seen the Gamba surname spelled different ways.
