Forget my earlier reply about Thomas William Gamble being born about 1860, my estimate based on the 1911 Irish census was wrong. Thomas William Gamble was born about 1864 so the item you found at familysearch.org was correct with a birth date of 13 Mar 1864 in Cootehill, Co. Cavan and parents Thomas Gamble and Mary Ann Martin. Thanks for your help.

Thomas William Gamble, Born: Abt 1860, Co. Cavan, Ireland

I have noted several references to Gambles in Co. Cavan, Ireland on the Gamble message board. I have a Thomas William Gamble who was born in Abt 1860 in Co. Cavan. Between Jan-Mar 1896 in Co. Cavan he married Annie Hall (B: 14 Apr 1872, Skeagh, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan; D: 20 Nov 1931, Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan). In the 1911 Ireland census Thomas William Gamble is listed as a "chemist" in Ballyjamesduff. Thomas William Gamble died in Co. Cavan on 21 Jul 1946. The Gambles had six childern, born between Oct-Dec 1896 and Jul-Sep 1907 in Co. Cavan (mostly likely in Ballyjamesduff): 1. Gilbert (B:Oct-Dec 1896); 2. Jennifer (B: Abt 1899); 3. Elsie (B:Oct-Dec 1901); 4.Thomas Frederick (B:Jan-Mar 1903); 5.Louisa Martha (B:Jan-Mar 1905); 6.William Stewart (B: Jul-Sep 1907).
I am looking for anyone who might have information on Thomas William Gamble's ancestry. My interest in this family is because Annie Hall Gamble was a daughter of Isaac Hall (1836-1926) and Martha Orr (1843-1922). Martha Orr Hall was a younger sister of my great grandmother Elizabeth Orr Babington (1839-1880).

Re: Gambles from Vermont

Hi, We've had contact before, my Gamble family were connected with McFadden's through marriage, my ggggrandfather was William E. Gamble, born 1801, Irish, his siblings were James,Robert, Elenore Brown Gamble, they seemed to like to use the name Brown as a middle name, I seem to think it may have been their mother's maiden name. Rachel, Catherine Brown Gamble, some of these had 9 children each, I have some hints they may have come from Ireland to the states, and then to Canada (Quebec) William and siblings had a lot of their children born throughout Quebec in the early 1800's the 3 brothers were tinsmith's and later became farmers as well. I noticed you mentioned Vermont. I was wondering if your gambles and Mcfaddens were the same line. One of my grandfathers sisters married a McFadden and lived out west Canada, also in the states.

I have a website on tribalpages O'Donnell Dill Gamble on that family from whom I am directly descended. William Gamble, minister from Ramelton County Donegal married an Anna Scott Dill and had four children to my knowledge. William who settled in Pennsylvania and married Phrinie Miller and had William Miller and Anna Miller Dill Gamble who had been born in Paris France. His brother Alexander Dill Gamble who travelled here to Australia and from whom my grandmother Rachel was born. The fate of two other siblings Robert and Anna are not known by me. Nor whether his mother Anna Gamble nee Dill accompanied husband William.
So you see the name Dill had originated in Ireland with the marriage.

Could you please contact me on irishchat@hotmail.com
I am great granddaughter to Alexander Dill Gamble whose brother William settled in USA from Ramelton, County Donegal, Ireland having travelled there with his father William Reichel Gamble. Whether they travelled with other family members is not known by me. Robert and Anna listed as siblings but nothing known of their fate. William Reichel's wife I believe was Anna Scott not Errol. Son William married Phrenie Miller and his children William Miller and Anna Miller Dill Gamble had been born in Paris France. Alexander settled in the Warialda district of New South Wales and married Fanny O'Donnell, their 13th child Rachel was my maternal grandmother. Fanny died as a result of childbirth soon after.
My website on tribalpages under O'Donnell Dill Gamble holds much information.

Her father may have been called Gilbert and her mother Catherine but I am not sure of these facts. She married Arthur Bradley Pattee in 1906 and they lived in Fort Edward, Washington, New York. She is buried in Union Cemetery. She died in 1963. Is she connected to your Gambles at all?

HI

You don't provide any ages for Edward and Hannah. Do you have their marriage certificate to find out the fathers' name. I found in the 1901 census a John William Edward Gamble born 1891 in Welham, parents William and Emma Gamble.
Household Members: Name Age
William Gamble 32 b. 1869
Emma Gamble 31 b. 1870
John Willm Edwd Gamble 10 b.1891
George Thomas Gamble 7
Mary Ann Phebe Rosina Gamble 5
Florence Gamble 2
Henry Gamble 2 months

William is living with his grandparents in 1871 who are Thomas and Elizabeth Gamble. Thomas b. 1823 in Welham and Elizabeth b. 1825 in Slawston, Leic. Also living there are possibly twins and brothers to William, Frederick and Thomas both age 3.

Looking at 1881 census William is shown as the son of Thomas Reading and Mary A. Reading, William may be eligitimate and the son of Mary Gamble. I found Mary with Thomas and Elizabeth in the 1851 census.

Also in the Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery are Sherman Gamble, d, 1921, two infants of Frank, d. 1894 & ?, and Vince.

I am the cemetery coordinator (volunteer) with the Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery in Coos Bay, Oregon. I have worked on a database that compiles whatever information we have available about the people who are buried there. Since the cemetery adjoins Marshfield High School, we hope to involve students as much as possible. Although we don't actively research ancestors, we do think that details about the people help students appreciate the cemetery. We have several Gambles (related to William & Emma) buried here and came across your posts. We would also appreciate any information that you can provide.

No obvious connection but perhaps Georgianna was a grandchild or niece. Henry was hung for causing a shipwreck in 1831 so he can't be her father and I have no other information on his family so I can't draw any connection. I don't believe he had any Navy connection from at least 1810-1831 although he may have had an earlier connection - unlikely he was ever an Admiral. If you find Georgianna has a connection then please let me know.

Thanks,
--Brian

Robert GAMBLE c1800 whaler/sealer

Is anyone missing a Robert GAMBLE born around 1800? We don't know were here came from. But I believe he came to Australia around 1820 as a free man on board the "Surry" which sailed originally from Cork, Ireland. Ended up in Albany, Western Australia, but know nothing of his earlier life. Do you have a Robert Gamble that disappears as a young lad, going to sea, maybe whaling? It would be great to hear from anybody, anywhere, who may have a connection.

Theresa (Terrie)
Rockingham, Western Australia

I am looking for anyone who has any information on Frank L. Gamble, born 1901 in Georgia, Died in Michigan. He was living in Detroit, Michigan on the 1930 census with his wife Ann, who was born in Canada, and his daughter born in 1930 and her name was Edith L. Gamble. He was my father (Howard D. Roberts) fist cousin. I do not know who Edith married or anything about them. I know my father lost touch with Frank before my father died in 1980. Any info available I would appreciate. Thanks

Re: Gambles in Texas (Texas Panhandle)

Hi!

My name is Karen Elizabeth McLane; I use my middle name, rather than my first name professionally since I prefer it. I am the elder of two children, John Bonner McLane being the other sibiling, of Johnnie Fay Cresens, who is 82. My mom was your great grandfather's niece. Fay Gamble, her mother, from Amarillo (also my mom's hometown). was William Rufus Gamble's sister.

My mom and brother live in Austin==she came to Austin in the late 1940s on scholarship to UT and was a writer/editor by trade. I live in Pearland, a suburb of Houston and personally, as well as professionally, would like to learn more about this side of the family; I teach American and Texas government and some history at the collegiate level.

Thanks for your post.
