Rob, I've traced my family back to Leonard Schwab and Katherine Gramling in Cincinnati, OH. They had a son Joseph and a daughter Johanna Antonias Schwab. Johanna married my great grandfather John Charles Braun in Cincinnati. I have a date of death for Leonard as 1887 and 4/27/1927 for Katherine. Sounds like it may be the same family. There are also a lot of Schwabs in the Cincinnati, OH area. Let me know.

Hi,
Edward and Clara are part of my family tree and it's quite large. I'll give a brief ancestry view without the branches:

Gabriel Gambling c. 1650 m. Elizabeth
-
Thomas Gambling c.1687 Tilshead, Wiltshire m. Rebecca Hale 1726 (also m. Mary) )

-Philip Gambling c.1720 Wiltshire m. Mary (might have wrong mother listed for Philip)

-Henry Gambling c.1748 Tilshead, Wiltshire m. Martha Smith (c. 1750)
(wedding 05/05/1771 Chitterne All Saints, Wiltshire)

-William Gambling c.1776 Chitterne St Mary, Wiltshire m Mary Ann Potter c1788-1858 Imber, Wiltshire

-William Gambling c.1821 Whaddon, Wiltshire m Ann Willis c. 1823-1900 (wedding 25/08/1845 at St Thomas, Salisbury)

-Edward Gambling 1854 Salisbury, Wiltshire m. Emily Plaister

That's the Edward you're searching for. I've got quite a lot of this tree on another website and there are other members who are also from this same tree. If you'll email me I'll give you details about that.
My line descends from William (b.1776), his daughter Mary Gambling (1816) is my ancestor. Edward would be her nephew. Hope that helps a bit.
Regards,
Laura Hayward

Hi, Eleanor! I'm sorry I can't help you with Thomas Gascione and Elizabeth Grambling. Haven't gone back far enough in my Gambling line. Have only recently found out that Thomas Horner Gambling was from Otley, Yorkshire (Through IGI, Family Search) and his parents were William Gambling and Mary (don't know her maiden name). Have seen several references to your Thomas and Elizabeth on Ancestry Family tree and other sites within Ancestry. Good luck in your quest. Kathy

I am a Gaskins and an Everett descendant. I have a document from Northumberland Co. VA that says MARY EVERETT is the dau of Alice and John Taylor. It was Alice's dau Mary who married GEORGE EVERETT. Thomas Everett was Mary and George's son. I also have documents proving this statement as well.

Be glad to answer any Everett questions.

Trying to find descendents of Joseph Gambling, who lived in Rye as of the 1870 census. At that time he was 46 years old. He was a House Painter and was born in NYC around 1823. His family included Catherine (wife) and children Flora (18), George (15), Hattie (9) Kate (8).

Possibly Joseph died between 1870 and 1880. He did not appear in the 1880 census. His wife Catherine was listed as the widow of Joseph C Gambling in the 1888-89 Brooklyn City Director and lived on Greene Street.

Would love to find out more about Joseph as I suspect he might have been the brother of my ancestor, William M. Gambling (NYC, 1822) and the son of Thomas H. Gambling and Eliza Gibbons Gambling.

Hi, Pamela!! Yes, indeed we have a match and I'd love to hear about Mary Jane. There was only one Thomas H. Gamblilng in NYC during the 1820's and he's our common ancestor. The next Thomas H. Gambling (grandson of our THG) that I'm aware of was born in 1872 and was my grandfather's brother.

I had always wondered if William M. Gambling had brothers and sisters and recently looked at a 1830 census (via Ancestry) Sure enough, there are definitely brothers and sister, but the 1830 is not very informative. When I have a chance later, will look it up again to see how many siblings are checked off.

Printed out your message and mine because after 4 years, I had forgotten what I wrote. So happy to get your message. It's really taken the Internet and Ancestry to shake some of these long dead bones. Have more to write, but wonder if we should write directly to each other. After all our Gambling List is not overwhelmingly huge!!

I do plan eventually to track down as many NYC gamblings as possible to try and piece together other siblings of William.
Do you know of others besides your Mary Jane?

I saw a Richard Gambling in a 1870's NYC city directory. He was a policeman. Initially he was a stagecoach driver. Maybe he's a sibling?

I recently found out that Thomas H. Gambling died in April 1830 on the same day as his Mother in Law (Rebecca Gibbons, wife of Thomas Gibbons, mother of Eliza). This was in Death's Reported in the New York Post by Gertrude Barber (NY Public Library).

Look forward to hearing from you again.

Kathy Chiappetta (kathygc@ntplx.net)

Hope this becomes an active message board, dear Cousins. William Michael Gambling was born in NYC in 1824. He was the son of Thomas H. Gambling from England and Eliza Gibbons from Pennsylvania. I would love to know if William had any brothers and sisters. Also would like to know more about Thomas Gambling and Eliza Gibbons. William married first Helen or Ellen. They had 2 children. Florence was born in 1858 and married Edward Burtis in 1873. I don't know Edward's background or whether they had children. William M was born in 1866 and died of consumption in a New York City sanitarium on DEc 7, 1887. William's 2nd wife was Annie B. Knight who was born in Salem, MA in 1854. William and Annie had 3 children. Thomas H. Gambling was born in 1872. Albert K Gambling was born in 1874. Richard H. Gambling (my grandfather) was born in 1880. Would be happy to discover more cousins.
