Harvey Ganey (Gainey)

I am looking for any information on one Harvey Ganey who was born in or around Brunswick County North Carolina. I want to find out if he and my grandfather are related, I found info on him in the 1920 cencus but then he and his whole family seem to disappear.

Also if anyone has found out who the parents of Meredith Gainey are I would love to have that information as well. Meredith was in the revolutionary war and is my fifth great grand father on my dad's side of the family.
Thanks

Hi
were you able to find any information about Solomon Ray who lived in Winston co Al and was the father of Barbary Ray and Mary Frances Ray who married Ganeys in Walker co Al? Solomon Ray took a loyalty oath in 1867 in Winston co Al after the Civil War. No one seems to know when he died. He was not listed in the 1870 Winston co Al census although I know he was there. I think maybe the census taker missed that area or that part of the census in southeast Winston co Al was lost or destroyed. Hi wife Jane Church Ray was listeed in the 1880 Winston co Al census as a widow living with her oldest son Silas Benjamin Ray. I don't know when Solomon Ray died. Also, I have heard the Rays were native American. Have you heard this? Any help appreciated. ross

Hello
Some time ago you were nice enough to provide me with some information about Barbary Ray Ganey. Her sister Lucinda Ray,daughter of Solomon Ray and Jane Church, was my ancestor. You had mentioned a genealogist that was very good. She had helped you on the info about Barbary Ray and her sister Mary Francis who also married a Ganey. The last record I can find about Solomon ray was when he signed a loyalty oath in 1867 in Winston co Al after the Civil War. I can not find him in the 1870 Winston co Al census although I think the census taker just missed the southeast part of Winston co Al where Lake Lewis Smith is now or that part of the census report was lost or destroyed. I know he was there in 1870 because his wife Jane was listed as a widow living with her oldest son Silas Benjamin Ray in the 1880 census. As I am sure you knw the courthouse in Winston co Al burned in 1892 and apparently all the records were destroyed. I am trying to find when Solomon Ray died. I would like to hire your genealogist friend. Would you ask her to contact me at rsmith6670@msn.com Thanks,Ross

She and her husband Thomas M Abel or Ables were listed in the 1900 Fayette co Al census living on rented land in the Glen Allen Al area. She must have died shortly after 1900 because Thomas M Abel or Ables is listed in the 1910 Choctaw co OK census as a widower. I am trying to find when and where Lucinda Ray Ables died and where she was burined. Would you know if there is a list of the people who were were buried in the Tucker Cemetery?
My name is Jean Rye, nee Ema Jean Stivener. I was born and raised in Marion County, Alabama, the daughter of Argus Lee Stivener and grand daughter of Charlie Monroe Stivener. I had an uncle, Seaborn Stivener, who lived for many years in Walker County, (Jasper, Alabama). He was a minister. I do no know David Ganey or Barbary Ray Stivener but I'm wondering if we are decendents since we live so close together. My grandfather had a brother who lived in Walker County but I can't remember his name at present.

HEllo
I had seen your reply to a researcher about Barbara or Barbary Ray Stivender who died in Walker co Alabama. You had mentioned you had found information in the Heritage Book, Walker co Alabama. Would you mind deeing if my ancestor who was related to Barbara Ray Stivender is listed please? Lucinda Ray Abel or Ables was Barbara's sister. She was born in 1837 in Tallapoosa co Al. She was the daughter of Solomon Ray and Jane Church. They went to Walker co Al in the 1850's and then to Winston co Al. Lucinda Ray married Thomas M Abel or Albes in 1862 in Winston co Al. They lived in Winston co and Walker co and were listed in the 1900 Fayette co Al census. Lucinda died shortly after 1900 but I don't know where she died or where she was buried. I know Thomas M abel or Ables was in the 1900 Choctaw co Oklahoma census and died in 1918 in Jasper, Walker co Al. Would you mind looking in your book and seeing if Thomas M aBel or Ables and wife Lucinda Ray abel wedre listed and if it says when Lucinda died and where whe was burined? Thanks, Ross rsmith6670@msn.com

Ann
Have you found any more info about the Rays? My ancestor was Solomon Ray who was the father of my Lucinda and your Barbary Ray. I did find that Silas Be Ray,son of Solomon Ray, had a son named Silas Ray if I remeber right. I believe he married a Strickland. I don't know id she was related to your Stricklands. Have you heard that the Rays were native American? I know Lucinda Ray married Thamas M Abel or Ables in 1862 in Winston co Al and they lived in Winston co and Walker co and were listed in the 1900 Fayette co Al census. Lucinda died shortly after 1900 but I don't know where she died or where she was buried. Have you seen any info about LUcinda? Thanks, Ross

Thanks for the information on Miranda McManus Reed. Was she of Native American heritage and if so which tribe? I have always heard that she was 100% Cherokee. Is this true? It would explain our high cheek bones. Who were her parents? Where was she born? This has been a stopping block in my research for a long time. I really appreciate your help. Sulynn
