Michael - I don't know if you are still watching this message board or not, but I just found your message regarding Charles Gang of Syracuse. I only recently discovered the connection of this line to my own family through my search for what became of Gussie Gang.
Gussie's father Charles was the half brother of my Great Great Grandfather, Joseph Pfohl. Joseph was born in 1854 and had a sister, Mary Ann who was born in 1856. Their father died and his widow, Elizabeth, got remarried to Joseph Gang. Joseph Gang and Elizabeth, then had another daughter, Augusta Gang.
My great great grandfather married Mary Louise Klumpp of Weedsport and I have some old family photos showing Gussie with all my Klumpp ancestors. Some cousins of my grandfather remember her well and I even have old recipe cards listing the source of the recipes as "Gussie".
Joseph Pfohl and his half brother Charles both died relatively young, both dropping dead suddenly. Joseph was 52 and Charles was 47 according to his obit (I would have thought he was at least 48 based on census records though).
Joseph Pfohl had one daughter, Mamie, who married my great grandfather, George T. Cady. They had one son, my grandfather Joseph Cady who died at 34. He married my grandmother Marie Duffner and they had one son, my father, Joseph Cady.
Joseph's sister (Charles Gang's half sister), married John Yorkey. She died at the age of 88 in 1944 and her only survivors were listed as her nieces, Mrs. George Cady and Mrs. Frank Mahan.
The mother of Charles Gang and Joseph Phohl, Elizabeth Pfohl Gang (maiden name unknown) died in 1934 at the age of 80 and is buried in St. Agnes Cemetery in Syracuse. Her obit indicated she was the mother of the late Charles Gang and Joseph Pfohl and was survived by her daughter, Mrs. Mary Yorkey of Brooklyn, NY. The funeral was from the home of Mrs. Charles Gang.
I would be very interested in any more info you have on this family, such as the name of Charles Gang's wife, the maiden name of Charles Mother, Elizabeth or the first name of Elizabeth's first husband (father of Joseph Pfohl). I'd also love any more details on Gussie's decendents.
Hope to hear from you.
Anne
