Am 1 of J.W.'s great granddaughters. Margaret is buried in Wingate Cemetery in Runnels County, TX. I don't have any notes on where Nancy was buried, though. I have the same notes for Rebecca Ann Howell as Ken does. That is that she died in 1910 in Dallas County, TX & is buried near Garland, Dallas Co., Texas. Since Nancy is Treasa Ritch's great, great grandmother, You may try contacting Treasa to find out about where Nancy may be buried. I believe she is in Runnels County, Texas.

dr. chris gannaway

My dad was R Lee Gannaway. He was a great horse trainer in Texas. He spoke of Uncle Chris to my brother, Joe. About a decade ago, I have gotten some geneaology from Treasa in Runnels County, Texas. She does it for fun. I do it sporadically. My dad's father was Robertson Coleman Gannaway. Granddaddy had several brothers and John Wesley Gannaway was their daddy. We lived at Hico, Texas, until I was about 10 and then moved several times in the course of 2 years. Four sisters of the RLee & Gwen Gannaway 6 kids are here in Washington state. My brother Joe's wife, Tricia, has done some geneaology as well. They live in Rexburg, Idaho. My parents are both gone. Mom passed last September 2011, & was living with Joe. Through Uncle Maurice, I only have 3 blood first cousins: John (mayor of Haskell), Andy (Haskell First National Bk President), and David, CPA in New Mexico. Uncle Jerry adopted his 2 kids-- Paige & (Craig, I think). A 4th child (Daddy's brother) died young in a silo, & I think his name was also Robertson.

OK, I just pulled out some trees: Treasa (not Teresa) was born 1959, Nov. 18th in Scurry County. Appears her last name is Ritch now, unless she's remarried. Her dad was Homer Ruben G..., whose dad was Homer Randolph G... and great granddad was Anderson Porter Gannaway, who was the oldest son of John Wesley Gannaway and Margaret Emily Beaver. Ummm, don't think Anderson's geneaology is quite right as I believe (Treasa told me) it was Margaret's sister who had him and died in childbirth. Then Margaret had the rest of the children.

OK, one of the Doctor Chris's brother was my great granddad, John Wesley. John Wesley had 11 kids. Dr. Christopher Columbus Gannaway was John W's younger brother, born in 1854 in Bradley County, Arkansas. John W. was the oldest of 11 kids as well, & he was born in 1847 in Monroe County, Mississippi. Chris and John W's dad was Robert Burrell Gannaway born in 1821 in Maury Co., Tennessee, married in Monroe Co., Mississippi, and died in Dallas County, Texas.

I am thinking this is the wrong Chris you wanted, though. So going back yet another generation, Robert Burrell's (G...) dad was James & it looks like James may have had 2 sets of kids, plus, in 1828, he adopted 6 other kids that Mary Ederington had already had -- whew! Anyway, that Dr. Chris Columbus Gannaway was born to Mary A. Ederington and James Gannaway on January 17th, 1835. Check the 1840 Monroe Co., Mississippi census.
James's other wife was Nancy Grimes, who had Robert Burrell (1821), Walker Washington (1822), Nancy A. (1825), William (1819), and Evelina (1825). 1820 census, pg. 40, Maury Co. Tennessee, reel 3, 1820, frame 76 (as written by Orval Gannaway). This Dr. Chris's other siblings were Mary E. (1832), Mildred H. (1839), and Louisa E. (1840). So I guess Chris and Robert Burrell were 1/2 brothers as they had different moms. If you want more info on the adopted Ederington kids, all I have is their names, no birthdays, etc. But it appears Robert Burrell thought enough of his half brother, the first Christopher Columbus, to name his son after him.

Though Treasa was helpful with pictures, Orval Gannaway in Payson, Arizona, has done most of our geneaology. If Orval is still alive, he may be able to help you more. Old address I have is: 702 W. Rimview, Payson, az 85541. He traveled to get his information and he did it for fun as well. I don't know how I'm related to Orval, tho'. Treasa may help you more as well, if she is still in Runnels County. Her dad, Homer, and Daddy used to run around together when they were kids. I haven't seen any of my cousins since we moved away from Texas, which is kinda sad. I did read some articles about Cousin John and Andy being interviewed about Governor Perry. Their daddy, Maurice, died ~ 25+ years ago of lung cancer. His wife, Aunt Lucille, died in 2010 at 100 years. Uncle Jerry is gone as well due to a car accident about 30 years ago. I believe, his widow, Aunt Mary, may still be alive & she's gotta be in her 80's. They were in northwestern Texas. Uncle Jerry was an accomplished piano musician and I believe Paige, his daughter, was as well.

I am trying to do some geneaology as well. So, putting it all in text like this helps me figure out what Treasa and Orval have already done.

Ann Gannaway of Everton, Lancashire, UK

I'm trying to find out more about Miss Ann GANNAWAY who was the principal non-family beneficiary of the will of William RADCLIFFE or RADCLIFF, gentleman, of Netherfield Road, Everton, Lancashire in 1837.

She is mentioned in his will dated 1830 and at the time of his death in 1837 was residing in his house. He called her his 'most dis-interested friend'. He left her £500 which is worth £25,000 roughly today.

She does not seem to be in the 1841 census in Everton, nor to have got married.

It's an unusual name so I expect someone will know who she was and what happened to her .... I hope

Isabel

Our records show Zaida Larriategui was born in 1685; don't know where. We have a date that on 15 Jan 1704 in Barcelona, Spain, she married John E. Gannaway, 1667-1783. They settled in Buckingham County, Virginia. That information is from someone's family tree.

The Gannaway family is huge. And yes, there are many sons named "John". Our ancestor is John Gannaway, 1779-1850 Wythe Co, VA, who was son of William, who was son of Col. John E., and on and on.

There were several Marmadukes.

Our John Gannaway married Keziah Barringer; their daughter Emeline is our great-grandmother. We have very little information on John and Keziah and would love to learn more about them.

There literally is a ton of information on the Gannaways. Just Google the name. If you have access to Ancestry.com, the entire tree as we know it is entered there. Just search for John Gannaway, or Marmaduke, or Edward, or William, or Robert.

Mary Peterson

This is not really an answer to your question, but my branch of the Gannaway family has continued to use the first name John, over and over again. My brother is John Cullen Gannaway, my father is John Richard Gannaway, My grandfather was John Robert Gannaway, etc. I was told as a child that the Gannaways had a custom of naming boys John. I don't know why. They are all called by their middle names.
I was told John and Marmaduke were brothers that came over in 1721 from England together. One of them married a woman from Barcalona named "Zaida" (whom I had the impression he met on the voyage over). I think they were in Virginia and then the family migrated across Tennessee and to Missouri and Arkansas.
I don't know Zaida's maiden name. Do you know what it was?
I have also always wondered if the Ganaways (with one "n") are related by blood to the Gannaways.

Our Gannaway line starts with Robert (1590-1634) and Sallie Paget (1615-?); son Edward (1620-?) and Hilda VanCampen (?-?); his son John E. (1667-1783) and Henrietta Campmartin (1641-?); his son Col. John E. (1720-1770) and Mary McGregor (1726-1793); to our William (1747-1800) and YOUR Gregory (1753-1804).

I know there's room for error in the wives of these Gannaway guys. Perhaps someone can set the records straight once and for all.

Mary Peterson

Ahhh, the incredibly large Gannaway family can cause huge headaches! Do you have a time frame? We have four Frances Gannaways, none were wives, all were sisters to a Tom Gannaway. (1) Frances 1798-7 Apr 1876. (2) Frances, b: 1826. (3) Frances Florence 6 Mar 1759-1793, daughter of Col John Gannaway and Mary McGregor, sister to our John Gannaway. (4) Frances Martin, daughter of Capt John Gannaway III and Martha Patsy Walker.

Ken, now that I know where R.B.Gannaway is buried, do you know where his wife, Rebecca Anderson Howell Gannaway is buried? She died in the Terrell State Hospital May 21, 1910, but is not buried there. I went to Terrell to check to see if she was buried there, but records indicated her children had taken her for burial. I can't find out where.
Also, another brick wall is where R.B.'s son, John Wesley, buried his first wife, Nancy E. Beaver, who died shortly after the birth of their first baby, Porter. He then married Nancy's sister, Margaret. The Beaver parents are buried in a Garland Cemetery. Do you have any information as to where Rebecca or Nancy may have been buried?

Edward Gannaway- b 1620

several questions- 1. when did he die? 2. Who are his children? 3. I have an ancestral line thru Edward then through grandson John, his son John and his son Gregory. The question is who is Edward's son who is John's father? Most trees put Marmaduke BUT I've also seen a couple of books that say John was Edward's son who was in turn John's father (maikng 3 John's in a row). The book Family trails...Gannaway..when showing this line has Marmaduke crossed out and John put in and a handwritten notation that seems to read Marmaduke died without issue. I also read a book that had information on Gregory and it had next to his name (John, John, John) which indicates that John and not Marmaduke is his great grandfather. I'm confused.

Here is a link to Cox Cemetery. Robinson Burrel Gannaway is in row # 5. The cemetery does look to be just north east of Dallas. Google it. Also, click on the link below:

http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jwheat/coxce...

I'll supply details if you will e-mail me at 485valentine@charter.net. Sarah (Sally) Gannaway definitely did marry James Malcom. She did NOT marry John Woodson. There are many errors in that book that put forth that error. I have researched the Malcom and Gannaway families for over 50 years. Tom Valentine

I have John Gannaway and Mary MacGregor but no proof. I also have info saying Sarah married John Woodson when all this time I thought she married James Malcom. What's this I hear of a book published in 2005. Any of those left?

There aren't that many Gannaway's so I was wondering if you had a tie to us. My grandfathers name was Maurice Gannaway, my dad's name is David Gannaway. We are still rooted in Texas. Our immediates stem from the Haskell, Texas area. Those still there are Lucile Gannaway, my grandmother, Andy Gannaway my uncle and Christie Gannaway my aunt.
I'm trying to find any information about Archibald Gannaway after 1850. According to the 1850 Federal Census he was 32 years old living in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee. Others in the household were Francis, wife; children Benjamin F. age 1 and Mary R. age 3; relatives with surname Gannaway John, age 57; Polly, age 50; Elijah, age 30; Nancy P., age 20; and Sarah R., age 18. I have found him in the Gannaway Family genealogy as the son of John Gannaway and Mary Walker Robertson with about 8 siblings and married to Francis Westervelt. Thank you for any help you can provide.

hundley-gannaway

I have now found out that my great grandmother's name was Mollie Hundley, not Mary Haffley! On my grandmother Era Lee Burnett's death certificate, it names her father and mother as: John B Gannaway, born in Breckenridge Co, Ky, and Mollie H Hundley, born in Hardin Co, Ky! Just wanted to update in case someone has any information..

Tom Valentine has done extensive research on the Gannaways. His soon to be published book should address many questions on this line.

Has anyone been able to confirm the parentage of the Sarah/Nancy "Sally" Gannaway that married James Malcom? I am a descendant of the Sarah Malcom and Edmond Adcock line.
