I am trying to connect with any descendants of the Gano family who came from Kentucky and settled in Parkville, MO about 1850 - just before the outbreak of the Civil War.
They had a large orchard above town and developed the Gano apple cultivar there. Several of them are buried in the Walnut Grove cemetery in Parkville, and the rest of them went to Kansas after "The Wahhr" :)
I was lucky enough to be given scion wood from a Gano family apple tree about 10 years ago. I just recently obatained more scion wood and an hoping to write an article about the apple and the family that developed it. My mother remembered this apple from her childhood in the 1920's and said it was marvelous. It is a late apple variety and a good winter-keeper.
Any information greatly appreciated and credited.
