Trying to locate information regarding my great grandmother Sarah Jane Gano. She was born 1863 near Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the third child of Nicholas Gano and Elizabeth Wilke. I do not know the names of these two siblings. The family came to Kansas and settled for a short period of time in Barnes, Washington, Kansas. They moved on to Doniphan County. At the age of eight my great grandmother was bound out as a servant. I also know that she has three step sisters. She married my great grandfather Harvey H. Hittle in 1878. They settled on a farm outside of Goff, Nemaha, Kansas. Sarah died there in 1959 and is buried in Goff. I want to know anything I can find out on her Gano line. Why was she bound out as a servant? Did her father or mother die that she had step sisters? Would like to find answers to these questions and more about her ancestors.
