Thanks Kurt. I have concluded there were two Thomas GANOs born about 1830 in the adjacent Ohio counties of Greene and Fayette. I am interested in the one from Fayette who married Cindarella or Samantha maiden name probably Wells, who had Jeptha, Savilla, Lavina, Robert S., Laura A., William and Cyndrella. (I have found Lavina as a married woman in later census, and probably Robert S.).

The one from Greene Co married Artementa LNU then Mary maiden name possibly Wilson. Maybe this Thomas was the brother of Samuel?

I wonder if there is also a connection between the names Cindarella and Cynthia although that is a stretch. Of course both names are quite unusual especially in the 1800s.

I suspect you are on to something regarding Samuel and Maria being the parents of Cynthia. I suspect they are also the parents of Robert.

Would it help if I listed the first names of Cynthia's kids? Typically in those days some of the kids were named after ancestors. Unfortunatly there is no Samuel (:

Also interesting is that at least one of Cynthia's kids and one of Thomas' kids were born in the town of Washington Court House, Fayette Co about 1855.

Re: Cynthia Gano/Ganoe

Hi,
I looked in to your message. I don't think my family and the Gano's that you are looking for came from the same branch of the family. Several brothers and nephews from my family moved to Ohio in the early 1800s and settled in and around Clark County.

I did look through the Lemasters Gano Family book. There is no mention of a Cynthia Gano, but Chapter 8 (which is the "catch all" for poeple who got there info in late or whose ansectry couldn't be tracted) did have a Samuel Gano who married a Mariah Mullin on Oct 11, 1822 in Ross County, Ohio.

A Samuel Gano then appears in the Xenia, Greene County, Ohio Census in 1830 (pg 41) 1840 (pg 45) and 1850 (pg 45). His wife was Mary.

Greene, Ross, and Fayette Counties are close together so I think they might be connected.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Let me know if you get any other Ganos names that you might want help reseaching.

Kurt

Cynthia Gano

OK, so I got this BIG surprise last month when I learned a WHOLE BUNCH about my great grandmother's ancestry. Of course one door opens and another one closes. Right now the closed door is her father's mother. My ggm was born OOW in 1880 so there was little tradition passed on. But her mother's obit and other evidence points to her father being Oscar Hidy. His parents were Nathan Hidy and Cynthia Gano b 22 Nov 1829 in Ohio. Cynthia is the mystery now.

Here's where it gets to be something between strange and very interesting. Some of the legit family members think her name was Guano. Now I know the 1800's were sort of primitive but NOBODY has a last name that means bird crap. What does look likely is she was descended from a Ganoe. But the closest I can come to any family for her is Jeptha Ganno b Fayette or Greene Co, OH abt 1856 moved to Jay Co, IN in 1880. Jay Co is where Cynthia lived most of her life. Jeptha's parents were Thomas and Samantha Ganno from Fayette/Greene Co. And Nathan and Cynthia Hidy named a son Jeptha.

So I have a little circumstantial evidence and that's about it for now. One cousin believes her dad may have been Samuel Gano. All suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Ray

This is a very old post of yours that I'm responding to. I hope you are still checking them. My third great grandmother was Hannah Ganoe from Fayette Co., PA. Family records say she was born in New Jersey in 1783. I have found Nicholas living in Fayette Co., in 1800 and Jacob and William,in 1810, who reportedly came from Warriors Mark, PA to western, PA. If you still have information to share on the Fayette County, PA Ganoes, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks.

Hi,
I am the son of Thomas Spencer Ganoe who was born in Union Town, PA in 1938. This is sort of weird but when his mother had just given birth to my father she couldn`t remember her husbands middle name correctly so she filled out Spencer on the birth certificate but his middle name was actually Springer. So now my father and I have the middle name of Spencer instead of Springer. But my dads father was Thomas Springer Ganoe from Union Town, PA. I actually don`t have a lot of information from my dads side but I think there is definately a connection here. I am going to call my dad and see if he knows who Daisy Ganoe is. Please write me if you have any questions or further info to give. Thanks alot!
Coleman Spencer Ganoe
