Hi,
My family of Gantt's from Philadelphia, Pa. My father's family were from Barnwell, South Carolina. Nathaniel Gantt, son of Miledge & Dinah Gantt. Siblings were Georgie,Daisy, Lana, Margeret, Henry, Milledge,Willie, Ida and Mattie. Milledge left South Carolina at a young age and moved to the Jacksonville, Florida Area. He started a family there. Other family members related to my father lived in New York. Henry is the father of Uell Stills, who is related to the Still's family of New Jersey, with the connection to the Underground Railroad. The Gantt family is also related to Ben and George Aikens of Aikens South Carolina. Ben Aikens recorded the song entitled "Stay together young lovers" Back in the 60's.

In looking back over Gantt info., I checked the message boards and saw your entry from earlier.
Rutherford is my gggrandfather and I am trying to complete records on him and his family. I have him as dying before 1870 (not on census with Sarah & children). Do you know where he is buried? I come from Leander, his son, and then Thomas Martin. I am going to a Gantt reunion on Oct. 10th (next week) and would like to have more info. for that. I would appreciate any info. you have on Rutherford.

Thank you,

Barbara Bell

Ruby V. Stone Gantt, born South Carolina

My great-grandfather was Manley Stone b. Jun 27, 1874 Lexington County, SC d. 1928 Aiken County, SC. His first wife was Mamie M. Hutto according to the LDS web site. They had a daughter name Ruby V. Stone b. 1901 in either Lexington or Aiken County. Perhaps the V is for Viola?

The family lost track of her and I'm trying to track her down. Ruby married a Gantt, first name unknown. I don't know if her husband died or they divorced. They also had a son, first name unknown.

Family members tell me that Ruby moved to Jacksonville, but I'm not sure if it was with her Gantt husband or not. I'm also told she died in a bus accident. It's likely she died in Florida, possibly Duval County.

If this story sounds familiar to anyone, please contact me.

Hello Penny -

I have a lot of information on the Maryland Gantt Family (Descendants of the immigrant that came to Maryland in 1654, Thomas Gaunt/Gant/Gantt d.1691). I only have one James Edward Gantt in my database and he was supposed to have been born about 1826 to Dr. Thomas Compton Gantt and Susannah E. Gray of Calvert County, Maryland.

Would you happen to know any of the names of James Edward´s sibilings or children?

Our family used to name their first born son after their father.

Thank you, Wm.
I assume that you saw the reply by Robert Lumsden. He is a distant cousin living in Maryland and is usually very good at documentation, however the place of Henry Wright Gantt´s (listed as Gant) and Margaret Gantt´s birth and Margaret´s bapt. is King George´s (AKA St. John´s) Parish in Prince George´s County not Piscataway Parish. My ancestor, Henry W. & Margaret´s first cousin, Richard Gantt(also listed as Gant)was also born in that parish. Henry Wright´s bapt. on October 23, 1763, son of John & Margaret is listed on page 312 of the parish records and Margaret´s birth on July 11, 1761 and bapt. on October 25, 1761, daughter of John and Margaret is listed on page 303 of the parish records.

Seeking John Gantt (b 7 Aug 1740, Prince Georges Co, MD)

John Gantt was my 6th gr grand[step]father. His stepson, my direct ancestor, William Pile was born to William Pile & Margaret Wright of Maryland. William the senior died (1756) within a year of William the junior's birth (1755). Margaret Wright Pile remarried to John Gantt abt 1760.

I am looking for information re John Gantt. Why? Well, William-the junior, gave at least two of his children the Gant(t) middle name. To me, this suggests a strong relationship.

Has anyone out there done an 'in-depth' of Mr Gantt? Land records, court documents, Rev War service, will???

Gantt married Ivey 1800's

Does anyone have any information on a Gantt who married a lady from Georgia last name of Ivey.
I found a historical document at the Huxfords library which states my great great grandmother EadyAn Ivey Vining had a sister who married a Gantt and moved to N.C.
There was another sister named Rhoda and there is a man named Joseph Ivey that lived with them for awhile in 1870. I thought he was a brother but the document states there were no brothers so that leads me to believe there were only the 3 daughters, EadyAn (EdithAnn), Rhoda and the one who married the Gantt.
Could anyone help with this please?

It just so happens I was trying to call Aunt Vera and her phone number was disconnected. Then I remembered something about her moving in with Shirley or Tommy and I cannot find their numbers. I put in a few calls to some of my cousins for the numbers and I am waiting for them to return my calls.

Looking for Info on Thomas Gantt b.1845 in SC wife Sarah Jane Strunk

I am in search of info about Thomas Gantt b 1842 in SC - married Sarah Jane Strunk in 1876 in Scott County, TN and they later moved to AL.

I would like info on his parents. I know he was born in Charleston SC on Dec. 1, 1845 according to 1880 AL Census his parents were born in Canada. This could indicate that his grandfather was a Tory durning the Revolutionary War. He listed a Rose Gantt (Charleston SC as his closest living relative when he was admitted to the hospital in St. Louis in 1865 - He was single at the time so who was Rose? Maybe Mother? He used the name T.J. Hughbanks when he enlisted as a private on 6 Feb. 1864 in Ft. Sumter for the SC cavalry regiment. He was later captured by Union Forces sent to Point Lookout POW Camp MD. Later becoming a Galvanized Yankee to get out of prison. After he got out of the US Army he moved to Carter County, TN and married Hyley Whitehead in July 1865 - she died sometime later - No children are know? He then moved to KY and later to AL.

Does anyone else know anything of this family? I have hit a wall on his parents or any other brothers or sisters. I know he did have several was was estranged from them as an adult. Please e-mail me if you know anything!

Thanks for any info!
Dana Long-Terry
dlongterry@yahoo.com
