Hello again,
My grandfather Giuseppe Ganz, from Falcade was a brick, stone and Marble Mason and worked in Austria and Italy, he came to America (not exactly sure of the year) and went to work for Henry Ford at his plant and also at his estates..he also built his own home in Dearborn Michigan, with 3 floors and a basement with a wine and meat cellar....My grandmother Maria Zando arrived later with Elvira, Gino, Sisto and my Mother,Giovanna...I believe they also traveled to America with The Zando Family who migrated to West Virginia..I never knew them except for my Mother's cousin Catherine, who moved to California near us. My grandparents had 2 more sons, Ettore (killed in WW2) and Augusto, who died 3 years ago.I have also heard the name Scola as my Grandfathers Mother's name.... My father Eugenio Cecchini was born in Gabicce Monte/Gabicce Mare in Pesaro in 1900..Came to America in 1927 while in the Italian Merchant Marines and migrated to Dearborn Michigan where he worked at the Ford plant and opened his own restaurant after marring my Mother They had 2 sons Marvin and myself Eugene in Detroit , and one Daughter Paula born in Calif. We moved to Burbank Calif in 1945 and my parents opened another restaurant in Burbank..My Mother died in 1984 (born in 1910) and my Father died in 1993...also all the Ganz's are gone except my cousins and my Aunt Mary, Uncle Gino's widow in Michigan...My Grandparents did not speak English, and I regretfully did not learn Italian, so I never knew much about them...except my Nono instilled his love of brick laying in me and my Nona, the art of making Polenta..I now live in Solvang, California with my wife and 3 sons, still making Polenta and laying bricks..
Thanks,
Geno Cecchini
