Hi, I found your message while searching out of curiosity and became very interested when I noticed a connection to your Great Great Grandfather Christian Ganzel.
My Great Great Great Grandfather Carl or "Charles" Ganzel was born in 1826 in Mecklenburg, Germany and came to the Greenville WI area (north of Appleton, WI) probably around 1868. I did some research in the original 1870 census in Madison, WI for the town of Greenville, and found your Christian Ganzel born in 1831, married to a Dorothy Frik with children Mina, Mary, Ida, Lena, Henry and Chris. In the same 1870 census for Greenville I found my *Carl Ganzel* married to a Louise - I believe Carl to be the *older brother to your Christian /Christ H. Ganzel.*
After finding your message and noticing the similarities to info. in the Greenville census, this led me to Boyd, WI. Here, I went to the Chippewa County courthouse and found an article in a book about Christ H. Ganzel. It mentioned that he had bought a hotel in Seymour WI (near Greenville) which he kept until 1882, and from here moved to Boyd, WI. My Carl Ganzel, (his brother) stayed in the Greenville area
and had a number of children including Henry, William, Maria, Caroline and a son *Christ *(my Great Great grandfather born: 1868, or your *Great Grandfather also named Christian (born:1862) who would be cousins.*
It gets confusing with all the Christ's- it must have been a popular name!
I would be interested in finding out furthur earlier information such as on your Christian Ganzel born: 1831 in relation to my Carl Ganzel born: 1826.
