I am a law student at the University of Ottawa but I'm from Durham Region (near Oshawa). My father is David Garant from Timmins, son of Gaston Garant from Timmins, son of Joseph Garant from the Gaspé.

Hopefully this was helpful, let me know if you have any questions.

I know my aunt, Brenda Garant, did some research and found that the first Garant to land in Quebec was Pierre Garant in the 17th Century... I think 1648?

Looking for descendants of Henry Bissonnette & Louisa Garant of Worcester, MA

I am looking for descendants of Henry Bissonnette (b.1860, d.1898) and his wife, Louisa Garant (b. abt. 1868). They were married in Worcester in 1892. Did they have any children? Louisa married a second time to Peter Dusoe in 1900. Would like to share Bissonnette information.

Thank you Mr. Perry for such an extensive history of the Garand/Garant family.......I too am a descendent of Pierre Garand as well as Jacques Genest dit Labarre.. my father's ancester was genest, my Mom's Garand, both ancestors landed on the Isle of Orleans....a beautiful island in the middle of the St Lawrence...thank you again, I will apply some of your research to my own ancestry pages.

Just began my geneological search. My great grandfather was Alexandre Robin, from Montmagny, Canada, who's children immigrated to New Bedford in 1906. He immigrated later. One of his son's, Martial Robin is my grandfather. Any information on Alexandre Robin greatly appreciated.

Im not sure if you already have solved your puzzle..I hope you have. Mike was right in advising you that the Garant (d) family settled in St. Francois du Sud,
the first Garant(d) settled on the Island of Orleans.
My grandfather was Arthur Garant, son of Theophile Garant and Lucy Fleury, came to the states around 1910

I do have some information regarding the family tree
The Garant family was made up mostly of farmers and tool makers, not the rich type of stock, but good hard working people

GERARD T. GARANT SR., 85, of Don Court, a retired maintenance worker, died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island.

He was the husband of the late Barbara C. (Petit) Garant. Born in West Warwick, a son of the late Adelard and Marie R. (Ritchotte) Garant, he had lived in Pawtucket for over 40 years.

Mr. Garant had worked in the maintenance department at the former Ciba-Geigy Co. for many years before retiring in 1981.
He was a Army veteran of World War II, serving in central Burma with Company B, 23rd Signal Heavy Construction Battalion.
He had been a member of the MORA Club for over 10 years, and a communicant of St. Leo the Great Church for over 50 years.
Mr. Garant was an avid Red Sox fan.
He leaves two sons, Gerard T. Garant Jr. of De Bary, Fla., and James A. Garant of Pawtucket; two daughters, Linda M. Holobowicz of Lincoln and Judith A. Gaudreau of Rehoboth; and 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late George, Albert and Richard Garant.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from Cheetham Mortuary Inc., 1012 Newport Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Leo the Great Church, 697 Central Ave. Burial with military honors will be in Mount St. Mary Cemetery.

John Cantius Garand (of the M-1 fame) was son of Jean Baptiste Garand who married Elisabeth Hedwidge Oligny on 23 Nov 1880 in St Remi of Napierville.

J.C.'s siglings were:

Cecelius, Eugene Aristede, Clemaque John, Cecilia Bernadette, Marie Anne Laurette, Pierre Nolasgne, Jean Baptiste, and Armand.

Which of the two girls was your grandmother and who did she marry and when and where?

Is that the Beatrice Priscilla (d. 5 June 2001 in Milford) and married to Stephen J. Stefaniak? Beatrice's parents, Albert and Georgianna Crepeau, were married 10 June 1919 at St Cajetan, in Masonville, Brome County, PQ

I'd love to compare notes with you, I show 3 children Edward, Robert, and Joyce but only know spouses of Robert and Joyce. I'm in Linwood and the Stefaniaks are next door in Northbridge but we haven;t met.

Your Garant(d) line was in St Francois, Riviere du Sud, Montmagny County for a number of generations. No one in the Garant/Garand line married natives but I know nothing of the Robin family. I'll check next week.

BTW, are you the Paulette who is daughter of Joseph Emile Garant and Lucy O'Brien?

My data base has a Francois Napoeleon Garand(t) born/bap 31 March 1888 in Caplan who was son of Napoleon Garand (born 1857 in Caplan) who married Marie Madeleine Poirier on 22 April 1884 in St Charles, Bonaventure County.

I am looking for information on Pierre Depo and his wife, Adelaide Garant. They were born abt. 1810 & 1812. They were in VT in the 1850's and NY by the 1860's, family members continued to move back and forth between the 2 states and probably Canada.

Sorry. My Angelique Garand was the last Garand in my line. She married Andre Lalonde in the early 1800's. It's all Lalondes from there.

I am once again imploring anyone out there who is familiar with the names of Oniesphore Garant and Helene-Alphonsine Robin. She married my grandafather in 1914 ahd he died in 1925. I am also related to Pierre Garant and Renee Chamfrin and alo I guess Catherine Labreque.1649? I have heard my ancestors married a few natives but unfortunately I was told their names were changed to reflect tChrisianity that was sweeping this new country. I would like to know how to find out if my grandmother was native. I know I have been told her family were rich merchants from Gaspe. She did not appear to be from a rich family. Any help greatly appreciated.

I amn't from St-François; I am living in Ste-Foy (near Québec city). Please check your email for files showing documents about Alphonsine and her parents. Actually, I amn't able to trace the direct lineage of Alphonsine with the first Robin who came in New France but I am sure that your Robin isn't the Robin who was living in Gaspésie. Can you read french?

I am interested in locating relatives that share the same grandfarher as I have. His name was Onesiphore Garant, He hailed fom De St-Francoise La Riviere-Du-Sud. However, he did travel and married in both Canada and the US. His ancestors arrived from France in 1689. The first Garant was named Pierre. If you are related please contat me.

I beleive my grandmother's family were from Gaspe. According to my dad who is alive and 81 says she had relatives in St. Gemain and Montreal besides the Gaspe. My dad is french and I cannot read or speak it however I am in North Bay and I have a lot of friends who can do both fluently. I am so thrilled to have finally made contact with someone who can help.

Thank you for responding to my query. My first question among many is are you from St. Francois? Where did you get this info? Please tell me there is more info out there. I have had such a hard time finding this info and tracking relatives. I know there are Garants but I have never run into them on-line or in person. Besides I believe they do not speak English. I am very interested in my grandmother Robin's side. I believe somewhere there is a native in her family and this I am interested in as I live on Native Land and I am very interested in Canadian Indian History.

I am still in the dark regarding my grandmother's family. Her name was M.-Helene (Alphonsine) Robin. She married M.-Onesiphore Garant (3rd wife) in ND. Quebec, on 1914-09-30. They had five or so children in St. Francois. My dad is Joseph Emile Garant. I know she passed in Quebec City in the 1970's a very poor woman. She remarried making her a Proulx when she passed. Please help me find her family history. Thanks

m. Exilda Guilbeault, b. 1850 Canada.
They rasied a family in Biddeford Maine.

Alexandre's parents were Charles Robin and Therese Lambert.
