The town of Garbarino is in the Rovegno commune. The Rovegno commune is in the province of Genova which s in the Liguria region. Therefore: Garbarino, Rovegno, Genova, Liguria would be the proper designation. There are no people there, nor have the ever been, with the name Garbarino - just Garbarini. The Garbarini are people from Garbarino. And there are no bars in Garbarino - a church and cemetery though. The town is on a slight slope facing Monte Alfeo and overlooking the town of Goretto and the Trebbia River. When Garbarini's came through Ellis Island, you can imagine how easy it was for the town name to be confused with the surname. Lots of errors were made. For example, Eutaw became Juta in one manifest for my family. Garbarino is a beautiful small town situated at the communal/provincial/regional border. With one step you can be in another province and region. It's like a small town on the Virginia/Maryland border if you will. My paternal grandmother was born in Garbarino (about 60 km NE of the city of Genoa) in 1868.
