Hello. I'm just starting to research my family history, and I have a little (very little) information about the Gardell's in my ancestry.
Nicholas Gardell (1857-1932)was my great-grandfather (my mother's mother's father). Apparently he was born in Luxembourg to some kind of nobility. (An Earl???)
I heard that the family name was changed at some point from "DeLaGardell" to simply "Gardell".
My grandmother, Theresa Gardell, was born in the USA in 1886, so the family arrived in America sometime between 1857 and 1886. My great-grandmother (Theresa's mother) was born en-route from Luxembourg on the ship in 1857.
My grandparents settled in St Paul, MN, then moved for several years to Rapelji, Montana. By 1925, the family moved back to St. Paul, which has become the family's center. My grandmother died in 1970 from a stroke.
I don't know of any relatives that live/lived in New York. Some of my grandmother's sisters married and lived in Chicago.
'Not sure if any of this information helps you, but since Gardell is such an unusual name, I suspect we're related somehow. Please let me know if any of this coincides with any of your family information. Thanks.
