FRANKLIN â€” Preston N. Gardepe, 89, of Franklin, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at his residence.
He was born June 7, 1909, in the town of Tompkins, and was raised by Theodore and Kathryn Turtur. He married E. Evelyn Roof on June 23, 1934, in Stilesville. Mrs. Gardepe died on Jan. 22, 1991.
For many years, Preston owned and operated a dairy farm on Palmer Hill Road in the town of Walton, and during the same period of time, he drove school bus for the Franklin Central School. After his retirement from the farm and school system, he worked as a caretaker at the Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin, along with doing part-time work for the village of Franklin.
He attended the Plymouth Church in Walton.
Preston is survived by his children and their spouses, Kathryn and Fred Banks of Franklin, Warren and Donna Gardepe of Anchorage, Alaska, Shirley and Jim Fullington of Franklin, Mary and Paul DePaolo of Franklin, Linda and Roger Seward of Unadilla, and Steven Gardepe of Franklin; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Jean Gardepe of Walton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Richard Gardepe in 1997.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at 1 p.m. in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Carl Butler, pastor of the Pines Brook Baptist Church, Walton, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home in Franklin at which time the family will be in attendance.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer So"ciety or the Catskill Area Hospice.
Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.
