Millard "Dry Wolf" Gardner
I am looking for additional information concerning the Gardner family of Dallas, Texas.
Millard "Dry Wolf" Gardner was born in 1903, a native of Texas. After high school he worked odd jobs during his youth and while in his twenties he began a career in law enforcement. He was a "one - man prohibition squad" and raided several "blind pigs" around Dallas along the Trinity River. Gardner was known as the "Dry Wolf" during the Prohibition and later became a police officer. He was later elected in 1939 as Police Chief of Highland Park in Dallas, Texas. Millard Gardner was described as tall, dark, handsome, and cigar - toting. He stood 6' 1 and had a trim build with broad shoulders.
His brother was also well known in Dallas. Buryl "Tiny" Gardner, who stood 6' 6 and weighed anywhere from 265 to 478 pounds according to newspapers. He was born in 1906, a native of Texas, worked as a custodian and in 1930 he joined the Dallas Police force being mentioned in newspapers time and again. He tipped the scales at 419 pounds in 1938 and was reputed to be the "World's Heavyweight Policeman".
A newspaper once stated that the surname Gardner is synonomous with "Rough on Rats".
Any information or newspaper articles are appreciated.
