I am seeking information regarding the Andy Garfield family of Pineville, Mcdonald, Missouri. Family members, as listed on the 1880 census, were Andy Garfield, age 40 in 1880; his wife, Juda, age 35; their son, Marcus, age 17; daughter, Mandy, age 14; daughter Sarah, aged 12; daughter Sibba, aged 10; daughter, Ada Lewis, age 7; daughter Emma Lewis, age 3' and daughter, Asa Lewis, age 1. I have no idea how the last three of these children came to be called Lewis instead of Garfield but I feel that the mystery has something to do with my own heritage.
Eunice (Cooley) Garfield captured by Indians in 1755

"Benjamin Garfield and Eunice (Cooley) lived near Northfield, Mass., and had one or more children, of whom nothing is known. One report cites a son, captured with his mother by the Indians, who visited his mother in later years, but preferred to live like a savage, as he had been brought up as an Indian; another report says she had only a daughter, Eunice Garfield, concerning whose fate Mrs. Garfield was uncertain. It seems likely that the story concerning the son is "historical fiction" rather than fact; such stories were common regarding anyone with children captured by the Indians.

Married in 1752, captured in 1755, Eunice Cooley Garfield probably had a two-year-old child and an infant; the infant was probably slain by the Indians; generally, when a long march was intended, the mothers were not permitted to carry small infants with them."

The rest of the story is on the website listed below.
Joyce

Garfield
http://users.rcn.com/smartin.javanet/garfield.htm

My family came from mostly Barry Co. and lived also in Eaton, Calhoun & Allegan.
If any of this sounds remotely familiar please get a hold of me.

Family tree of Sophronia Sabrina Garfield

She was my GtGmthr (1827-1893) and a seventh-generation descendant of Edward Garfield (1575-1672) and wife Rebecca thru Benjamin G. (1643-1717), Thomas G. (1680-1752), Isaac G. (1717-1792), Solomon G. (1753-1821) and Solomon G. (1797-1870) and his wife Sabrina Northrup. Sophronia's older brother was John Milton Garfield (B 1823); a younger brother was Henry Clay Garfield (B 1830). Isaac Garfield was one of the first settlers of Tyringham, MA, along with the Northrups. My FT indicates that Pres. Garfield was her 3rd cousin once removed. She was the 3rd wife of Rev. George W. Fuller (1824-1908). Have more info to share and many gaps to fill.

GARFIELD headstones, Red Wing, Goodhue Co, MN

This was in today's (5/24/02) Red Wing Republican Eagle newspaper:

Children discover old headstones

Two children playing behind a residence on Bush Street unearthed two headstones Wednesday.
Police said the children were digging atop a hill behind 1201 Bush St. In doing so, they located two headstones. One was marked "Geo. F. GARFIELD (1860 -1924)", while the other was marked "Augusta GARFIELD (1862-1940)".
Police and other city personnel are trying to determine whether the headstones represent a burial site or if they were stolen and disposed of in that location. Authorities reported that the markers appeared to have been permanently placed at that location.

I am in search of anyone with relation to garfield and markey. My father Jack Myers Garfield was born in Oklahoma but my understanding is that they came from the east coast or Midwest area. Presumably related to President Garfield and 2nd cousin to the actor James Garfield. Please e-mail me at whitesnow3@juno.com
I don't know where to start. I don't even know my dad's parents full names or where they were born or anything like that. All I know is that his moms name was Mabel. Markey comes in somewhere but which side I don't know.

DAMARIS GARFIELD--AARON MORSE

I am seeking information on DAMARIS GARFIELD who was said to have been born on June 15, 1751 [source of this date is unknown]. She probably married AARON MORSE ca. 1769 since their first child was born in 1770. The children of this couple were baptized in Fitzwilliam, NH. Town records show that they moved to Fitzwilliam ca. 1775. DAMARIS GARFIELD MORSE is said to have died in Warwick, MA on Jan.31, 1827. Can anyone tell me who her parents were or give proof for any of these dates and places? Thanks! Sandy St. Martin
