I'm looking for children of Pietro Gargano & Agnese Mazzeo of Tramutola, Italy. My grandfather Giovanni was one of their children and moved to Brooklyn, NY @1907. I believe one of his brothers moved to Argentina around the same time. Other siblings remained in Italy. I have no names or dates for them. Thanks for your help, Pete

My Great Great Grandmother was a Gargano from Contessa Entellina. The town was founded by Albanians and Greeks in the 15th century. I'm with your regarding the spelling and I suppose that SOME of the Gargano's are actually from the Greek Gerganus/Garganus.

There are many Gargano's in Italy and I don't think all of them share this Greek heritage.

William Guzzardo

Gargano, Joyce Darlene, Born 1933, CA mother maiden name Stone

I am searching for my cousin Darlene whose mother's name was Bernice. I am attempting to match Darlene's born in California in 1932-1934 to a mother whose name was Bernice.
The California Birth Index gives the mother's maiden name but not a given name. My Uncle Martin Glover worked in a cannery between 1930 and 1933-34. I have verified that he was in Coulterville area in about 1934. Joyce Darlene Gargano was born in San Francisco County. I have a photo of Bernice and Darlene that looks like it was taken in Santa Barbara near the pier. Bernice would be of Portuguese descent. Any suggestions or connections you can make would be greatly appreciated. Or if this Darlene can be ruled out as a possibility.

Gargano / Garganus

Hello! I just got back from a few days of vacation in Italy and this renewed my curiosity of whether my name has any Italian roots. My name of GURGANUS dates back to the 1600's in the US and England, and has spelling variations of GURGANY and GARGANUS, among others. Before the 1600's, the name goes into a black hole.

I know of the region in Campania that references the Gargano name, and spelled Garganus in the 1500's, and more recently in the 1700's and 1800's there are families with the GARGANO name. It was exciting to see maps in the Vatican Museum in Rome from the 1580's showing "Garganus"

My question is, going back to the early 1600's and 1500's, and earlier, are there any documented families with the GARGANO or GARGANUS names, or other variations? Anywhere I can research to see if there might be any family connections?

I came across some other Garganos in Brooklyn looking through the WW1 Draft Registration at the NARA office in NYC.
My grandmothers maiden name was MAROTTA.
I found a FASANO grave in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. I didn't check but I'm sure there are Garganos there also. Good Luck, Peter

They were married in Minnesota in 1909. They had one daughter Florence, born about 1910, who married an Arthur Nelson/Nilson/Nielson.
We believe they had a daughter Janet and a son Bruce. The family most likely resied in the NY City area. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

It certainly is a small world, and getting smaller the more research that I carry out.
Yes Ian did mention your name in one of his letters, but didn't give me any address for you otherwise I would have written.

I have written to two other contacts that he gave me, but have never received a reply. Tried the White Pages for phone numbers, but no luck there either.

My connection comes through Clarence Thomas ADAMS, another son of William ADAMS & Sarah LINSLEY.
Clarence married Elizabeth GALLAGHER, and one of their children was Lilian ADAMS.

Lilian ADAMS married RICHARD DUTTON, and Doris May DUTTON was one of their children.

Doris DUTTON married George WATSON and my mother, Pearl WATSON was their only child.

A very brief resume, but it will give you the idea.

I used to live in Brisbane, but we decided to take the plunge and retire early and moved to the Hervey Bay area.
My mother, Pearl COWLEY still lives in Brisbane, at The Grange, and she gets quite excited when I update her on what I have found out.
She can recall some of the family members tied in with Richard & Lilian DUTTON, but never realised just what they had got up to.

On the DUTTON side so far, have traced back Richard DUTTON's grandfather to being in the Army at the Eureka Stockade.

My postal address is:

36 Dreamtime Avenue
BURRUM HEADS QLD 4659

Tel. 41295538
Email - tacp@optusnet.com.au

Keep in touch.
Regards
Trisha

That was a quick response, Patricia. It would seem that I am also your 3rd cousin, once removed.

My great-grandfather was Charles Henry Adams, another son of William, who deserted his wife, Elizabeth Carter in the 1890s, and vanished, only to end his life in 1942 in a shanty camp outside Ivanhoe.

Like Ian, I would be very interested in whatever information you have on the Adams family. He told me in a letter received yesterday that he "may" have given you my contact address, but he had not previously told me of his contacts with you, which apparently are not all that recent. He said he had given you addresses for a couple of other distant Adams cousins.

If you could send me your address I could send my gedcom file which has most, if not all, of the information that I have on the Adams and Linsley families.

I understand from Ian that you are a Queensland resident; I live in Malaysia, but will be going to Brisbane next week for a job which will keep me there until 22 November.

Regards

Rod

Hi Peter
I dont think this is the same Giovanni Gargano. My grandmother's brothers would probably have been born in Scotland UK. or perhaps Cassino(Prov. They had a sister living in Scotland and I am sure they kept in touch with her.
Joe

Hi
I'm looking for anyone who may be related to Giovanni Gargano or Francesco Gargano his brother( I'm not sure if Francesco was his brother's name. They came from Cassino in the provincia of Frosinone Italy. They went to America before the second world war. They had a sister in Scotland, one in Italy and also a brother called Pietro in Italy.
As far as I can recall only one of the brothers may have married but I'm not sure. My grandmother(one of the 2 sisters) was borne in Scotland and I think her sister was too so Giovanni and Francesco may have been born there too before they were taken back to Italy.
As far as I know they were living in New York at first.

Any news would be much appreciated.
Joe

I am in search for any info regarding my great-grandmother, Anna Gargano (maiden name). She married Giuseppe Gagliardo in Sicily prior to coming to Brooklyn in the early 1900's. I checked my grandfathers birth certificate and it said her maiden name was Gargino, but some of the other siblings birthcert's say Gargano. I found some info with her married name, but have not found anything with her maiden name; which is preventing me from further research. I know her father's name was Cosimo Gargano.
