John A. Garis
VALE-Services for John A. Garis, 85, Vale, who died Monday, March 24, 1986, at home, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Lienkaemper Chapel, Vale, with Pastor Paul Ratzlaff of the First Christian Church, Vale officiating. Interment will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Vale.
He was born May 12, 1900 at Russelville, Ark., the son of George and Myra Garis. As a small child he moved to Quinton, Okla., where he was raised and educated. He began farming as a young man. He married Willie Mills on April 25, 1922 at Quinton. They continued to farm in the Quinton area until about 1948 when they moved to the Vale area where he began to work for the Vale Irrigation District. He later worked for the Warm Springs Irrigation District, retiring in the late 1960’s. His wife, Willie, died in 1979. He then married Ina Jones on November 61, 1979 in Vale. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved playing pool. He was an active member of the Vale Senior Citizens group.
Survivors include his wife, Ina, of Vale; a daughter, Gladys Baker of Redding, Calif., six stepchildren, three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Vale Lienkaemper Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Oregon Heart Association or the Vale Senior Citizens Group in care of the funeral chapel.
