Johanna Garlitz Mckenzie was my grandmother. She was the daughter of mary Magdelene McKenzie and an "unknown" father. That father was Isreal Garlitz, who was the brother of Mary's mother, and therefore Mary's uncle. He was about 30 years older than Mary, and Johanna Garlitz was raised by Mary's parents, Leo and his wife as their youngest child and Mary's "sister." My mother and many of my cousins grew up with "Grannie," who was Mary Magdelene McKenzie. When Johanna Loretta Garlitz married Simon Weimer she said she would marry him providing her mother could live with them. My grandfather readily agreed, and the family moved from Pennsylvania to Colorade just before my mother was born.
