I would appreciate any assistance in locating the birthplace and parents of my ancestor, Josiah Garlitz/Garlets/Garletts. I have located him in the 1850 census in IL (where he is listed as Joseph), age 25 and living with his bride Martha Ann Stevenson. A few years later they moved West where he received an Oregon Land Claim in Clackamas County and lived the rest of his life. In both the census record and the land claim application he lists his birthplace as PA but I have been unable to locate where. He named his only son Henry Cooper, which seemed like a clue. There are some Henrys in Somerset and York counties in PA but I've been unable to make a connection. I would appreciate hearing from other researchers of this family.
