Jim - We have always heard that we were related to John Nance Garner - haven't been able to prove it. There is a family story that when John Nance was V-P he visited Floresville and tried to talk to Jesse E. Garner and figure out how they were kin - Jesse E was a very religious man and refused to meet him - John Nance was a "drunkard and womanizer" and he wasn't interested in establishing kinship.
Any truth? who knows? but told. Have you been able to establish parents for Jesse P.? The name Jesse appears in the Thomas Garner family frequently. Shirley

My dad's uncle Fred (Clark) Garner and Aunt Edith Garner (Howard) both moved to California in the 30s. I met both as a child and MY great Aunt Edith again in 1966. She and Dad's cousin Stanley (and Wife Ceil )came to visit with us when we lived in Colorado for a short time.
Fred Garner's son Del (Delbert) is a memeber of Ancestry.com. You can contact him through this site. I was doing some research a while back trying to determine if family lore was true about a link to John Nance Garner's relation to us. Through another contact we were all able to determine there was no link.

Jim Garner

Hi - Re: James K. Polk Garner - I was researching the Garner name in Wilson County Courthouse in Floresville, Texas and found a delayed birth cirtificate issued to Fred Clark Garner, born 16 Jul 1887 in Wilson Co., Texas - his father was James K. Polk Garner and mother was Emma Wing born about 1862 in New York.

Jessie P. Garner is the Father of James Kern Polk Garner, my great grandfather. Ran across you post today while looking for "family lore" information of American Indian blood atributed to Emma Wing, James K. P. Garner's wife. Found the Wing name history back to Staffordshire Englenad so that dispells the Wing connection unless it was a "Wing" wife some where.

Micki-- Have you been able to find any birth records for "Angie" or any of her siblings? So far, I've only been able to find a birth record for Benjamin (which solves a great family mystery for me -- no one around here was ever sure about his exact age). I find it interesting that his birth is the only one to be publicly recorded out of that mob of children. There must be a family bible somewhere that records all those births. Also, tell me more about Angeline. Apparently, she was the closest in age to Benjamin, and I think I may remember her name being mentioned in the family lore (although I'm not sure). Her name seemed familiar to me when I found it in the census records.

All of my knowledge about the Denney family has, so far, been learned from listening to stories and tidbits of oral tradition. I remember my Aunt Winnie (one of Benjamin's daughters) saying that he had a sister back in Kentucky that he was particularly close to growing up, but I don't remember if it was Angeline, or not; nor if they ever corresponded after they grew up and left home. Tell me what you know. -- David

I am the daughter of Robert Charles Garner, son of Herman Charles Garner. Herman's parents were Daniel Thomas Garner and Mary A. Weeks. Herman married Vashti Elvira Fadely, who I am named after, my name being Gail Lynn Vashti. I had heard from Floyd Delon, a cousin, back in 1998, about his relationship to my family. Daniel Thomas Garner, my great grandfather, was the son of Lucien Garner and Elizabeth Keck Garner (widow of Alfred Fields). Daniel's siblings were Nancy, Thomas, Angeline, Mary,Phoebe, Ida and step-siblings, William Fields, christopher Fields, John Fields, and Peter Fields.
The family was located in North Carolina and Indiana (Greensboro, Spiceland, Henry County)
I believe the home country was Ireland, but I don't know for sure; I am trying to get more information on ancestors from Lucien and Elizabeth on backwards.

Samantha,

I just viewed your Garner line on your family tree... you have a ton of history!!! Amazing! How, when and where have you received so much info from so far back?

The picture shown on my previous post came from my grandfather's (William Alvin Jr.) processions. I am not sure who the family is...and yes, the man does look like a Garner. Unfortunately, my grandfather past away and so has his sibling sisters. My mom is unable to identify the family as well. Do you believe this is Andrew Jackson, Catherine Long and children?

I appreciate your reply.
Ann

Garners of Moore County, NC

I wanted to invite you to my newly created website, www.MooreCountyWallaces.com. This site is dedicated to and primarily contains the descendants of Everet Wallace (c1770-c1845) of Moore County, NC along with over 30,000 names of many of the related and allied families who lived nearby in upper Moore County.

Some of the most prominent families include Maness, Williams, Cockman, Melton, Brown, Stutts, Furr, Sanders, Morgan, Britt, Horner, Hunsucker, Garner, Cagle, Davis, Moore, Kennedy, Richardson, Brewer, Williamson, Hussey, Ritter and many, many more.

I’ve also mapped out over 1100 land grants and deeds encompassing over 250 square miles of territory in upper Moore County. These records themselves contain thousands and thousands of hard-to-find references for Moore County residents and are indexed for ease of searching.

Morgan Jackson
www.MooreCountyWallaces.com
I am a grandson of Benjamin Paris Denney, son of Samuel & Jane (Garner) Denney, who migrated to Paris, Lamar County, Texas in the late nineteenth century. I am just getting into the geneology game, thanks to my daughter who gave me the software for Christmas, and now I'm hopeless hooked. I'm interested in making contact with other descendents of Sam & Jane Denney, and it appears that I may be able to provide some information on the Texas Denneys that you may be missing. Please let me hear from you.

Re: Looking for Garner connection btw PA and IA

I hope you still check after all these years. I believe I am the great grand daughter of George Riley Garner. He married Hannah Riemers in Davenport, Iowa. I believe the family homestead is still there. I received a family history where the Garners were from the Huntington area. In the family history, my ancestors were listed as having moved West. I have not tried to connect anyone to update the information. My mother was Lucile Garner daughter of George Andrew Garner. You can reach me at caroleshaw@hotmail.com

Eleazar William Garner in UK, Ontario, US

I'm interested in corresponding with folks who have knowledge of Eleazar William Garner--particularly with respect to his emigration from Yorkshire to Ontario in ~1861-62 and his apparent FIRST marriage to Ruth Mitchell, which appears to have taken place in "Canada West" (Upper Ontario) in about 1862 (based on the birth dates of his many children). I am aware of his first marriage in the UK and his marriage to Ruth Mitchell in 1878 in Toronto and have my own opinions about why it took place. I am also interested in information beyond the LDS records and census on his career as a minister in Canada and the US and his relationship to the Eleazar William Garner who married Lucinda Jane Brown in Ontario in 1879.
