Hello there
I live in East Yorkshire but my family originate from West Yorkshire, England. Holders of the Garnett Surname may be interested in the following information from a scroll in my possession.
The name Garnett is of Viking origine, a group settled in Normandy in Northern France.
Members of the Garnett clan came over in 1066 with William the Conqueror. For services rendered at the Battle of Hastings they were given land in Lancashire, Northern England. Other groups settled diectly in England Wales and Ireland. Lancashire was the most important group.
The Garnett motto appears to be;-
"DILGENTIA ET HONORE"
The Coat of Arms is said to be;-
Red with a silver lion crowned, on a square in the left hand corner is 2 headed eagle.
The crest seems to be;-
A silver demi lion gorged with an oak branch, in its paw is an escutcheon charged with a bugle horn.
The above is not confirmed fact but I have seen it repeated many times.
Hope someone finds this interesting
