Thank you. I am also a Garney descendent and the only missing info is the proper French name for Garney and Lewis Garney's birth site in Quebec. I am told there are no French Garneys in historical records. If I do find the name, I will post it so that others can include it in their search.

I am not related to the Garneys. I have a dear friend whose maiden name is Garney, and I did some research for her because she doesn't have a computer.

Believe Phineas Kimball Garney's grandparents were Joseph Garney, born Saint-Louis-du-HA!Ha! or Quebec, Canada, couldn't find date of death, and Margaret Blanchard, born 1800 in Canada.

Phineas' parents were Lewis Garney, born 1820 in Canada, died November 23, 1898 in Bridgewater, Windsor County, VT, and Elvia Matilda Dow, born 1827 in VT, died January 1, 1874 in Cabot, Washington County, VT. Lewis and Elvira married April 29, 1846 in Cabot, Washington County, VT.

Everything I found about the Garney family was on genealogical websites and various postings on the Internet.

I am searching for the ancestor Joseph married to Margaret mentioned in Lewis Garney's second marriage record to Betsy Cameron Dow. The latest information gives the possible surname (altered to Garney) of Gagne. Have you found this ancestor or know any reference to him by Alice Garney?

Kenneth Garny was my dad. Clement was my grandfather, he was married to Viola (D), then married to Gertrude. Clem passed away in Sept.93. My dad passed away 7/9/2003.

Corning, N.Y. — Mary Alice Garvey, 86 years of Lansdowne Towers Apts. A303 707 Providence Rd., Aldan, PA died Friday, March 25, 2011 at Founders Pavilion.

She was born April 13, 1924 in Corning, NY the daughter of the late William J. and Margaret Kyler Garvey.

Mary Alice had received her Bachelors Degree from Fredonia University. She was an accountant for many years, retiring from WWF Paper Corporation, Philadelphia, PA.

She was a member of Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Springfield, PA and the Newman Club. Her interests were traveling throughout the United States, Europe and the Holy Land. She had a love for music, playing the piano, violin and clarinet, and enjoying the Philadelphia Symphony. She will truly be missed by her devoted family and many friends.

She is survived by her brother; John (Jean) Garvey of Elmira, NY. Nieces and nephews; Joe Garvey, Mary Kay (Dave) Gronski, John Garvey, Pat (Theresa) Garvey, Tom Garvey, Paul (Wendy) Garvey, Virginia (Mike) Wolf and 12 great nieces and nephews. Also special friends; Mary T., Peter, Molly, Father Ed, Father Corley and the Newman Club.

There will be Funeral and Committal Services at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St., Corning, NY, 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2011.

Interment will be in the family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery, Corning, NY.

The family would appreciate memorial donations be given in Mary Alice's name to Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 1101 Main St., Darby, PA 19023 or the Charity of Ones Choice.

Garny, Clement marriage to Sitzler, Mildred

I am trying to locate sources to establish parentage of Kenneth C. (b 1927) and Arleen (b 1925) Garny, born to Mildred Sitzler (b 1898) of Brooklyn NY. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Unsourced trees suggest father may have been Clement Garney (b 1901, MA) and a 1930 Census record that indicates Clement may have been remarried to Viola in Chicago.

HI, i don't know if this is of help but I think her father may have been Charles Garneys who was a surgeon from Bungay, I am the daughter Of a Garneys (My Mother ) Family from Kenton in sufolk.

Believe there was only one Phineas Kimball Garney, no Sr. and Jr. His parents were Lewis Garney and first wife, Elvira Matilda Dow.

Phineas was born July 1849 in Cabot or St. Johnsbury, Caledonia Co., VT.

1850 - Cabot, Caledonia Co. (became Washington Co. in 1855), VT: Phineas Garney, 6/12, w/parents & siblings.

1860 - Cabot, Washington Co., VT: Phineas Garney, 10, w/parents & siblings.

1870 - East Cabot P.O., Cabot, Washington Co., VT: Porter [sic] K. Garney, 20, boarding w/Clark family, works in sawmill.

If Phineas did marry Sara C. Utley, the marriage took place after 1870 and ended before 1880. (Have searched, but can’t find any information about Sara; don’t know where her name came from.)

1880 - Cabot, Washington Co., VT: Phineas Garney, 31, single, servant in home of Orson & Susan Kimball.

March 9, 1881 - Phineas, age 32, married Mary Lomira Marsh.

1900 - Cabot, Washington Co., VT: Phineas Garney, 50; Mary L. Garney, 48; daughter Alice M. Garney, 16; son Clare W. Garney, 7. Mary was listed as mother of 3 children/2 living. So a third child was born and died before 1900, suppose it could have been a son named Phineas Kimball Garney.

1910 - can’t find family.

1920 - Cabot, Washington Co., VT: Phineas K. Garney, 70; Mary L. Garney, 68.

I also am looking for more information on the Garney name. I have been able to trace the Garney back to Canada with help but still can get no information on my grandfather's 2nd wife. Apparently he was married to a Beatrice and had a son Lewis. She died at childbirth (so I have been told) and married my grandmother Mary Mahar or Maher. At that point I am stumped. Do you have any further information.

It doesn't look as if I am of any help, but my wife's family of Garney's came from Canada. The names you listed does not match any of the Garney's we have researched. Joseph Garney came from Canada and married a Margaret Blanchard in the early 1800's. Their son, Lewis moved to Cabot, Vermont. He was born in 1818 He married Elvira Dow. Most of the descendants of Lewis Garney lived in Vermont.

If I can help with anything else of the Garney's, I will be glad to help.

I'm surprised to get this message from my 2 year old inquiry. I've since learned much about the Garny's. There is a person who ends up to be my mothers cousin who has been researching the Garny's family history intensively. He has alot of information. Sorry to say I haven't kept up too much. I will pass along your information and ask him to respongd to you. I have not heard the names you have mentioned and the spelling is different but if anyone knows Rene will. Hopefully you will hear from him. This is a hobby for him so he is very involved and informed. Good luck.

i do research for friends and family.have birth record from connecticut.hand written and writting is terrible! maiden name of mother: trina garney,her birthplace is montgromery,vt.father edward boullet,they had one child wilford boulet,his birth 11 july 1901 trina, age was 28,# of child 4, # now living 2.as you can see there are two different spellings for last name.i have searched for days on computer and got nothing.guess it time to go to goverment archives.or one of my good librarys here in vermont.but would be interested in hearing from you.

At least that is the way I figure it??? Maybe I should stick with crossword puzzles....... Lewis and Elvira had and raised eight children. Home was Cabot, Vt. The children's names were as follows. Elsie Brown...Lydia Dow...Phineas Kimball..
Joseph Addison....Harvey H...George Brinton...Linnie Glee and Ida L.
As a young child I remember visiting Harvey at his home in E-Taunton, Mass. Do not know or have much recorded in regards to Harveys decendants. His son Lewis was your mothers father? Your mother's name was ?? Did Lewis have any siblings? My email address is BrigMerg@juno.com

My father was Emery Garney..son of George Brinton McClellan Garney. George B M Garney was brother of Harvey Garney. Lewis and Elvira were my g-grandparents. They raised a family and lived in Cabot, Vermont and are buried there. Can provide names of Elvira and Lewis's other children if you like?

Lewis and Elvira Garney were my gr-gr-gr-grandparents, and Elsie B. Garney Cudworth was my gr-gr-grandmother who died in 1910 and is buried in the Crandon Cemetary near Tulare, SD. I know my great-grandfather in North Dakota received Maple syrup from one of his aunts in Vermont every year. Lewis Garney and Elvira Dow were my gr-gr-gr-grandparents. I don't know if this helps, but my great-aunt told me that the original name was Garnshet (Garn-shay) and they changed the name to Garney so the Englishmen in Vermont could pronounce it.

Lewis Garney and Elvira Dow were my gr-gr-gr-grandparents, and my gr-gr-grandmother was Elsie B. Garney Cudworth. I was interested to know if any other family members have had bad asthma. I was given a letter written to my gr-grandfather in 1952 by an old family friend describing Elsie's bad asthma and all the suffering she had gone through. I think her mother also died at a young age. It has certainly shown up throughout the years in the family and I was wondering if any other branch of the family has had similar stories. They say it's hereditary.

I haven't checked messages for awhile. The Garney line from Canada started with Joseph/Margaret as far as I can find out. Their son Lewis married and raised a family in Cabot Vt. I have the names of all their children but there was no Harold. He could have been a grandson to them. Do you have anything prior in Harold's line? My last name is Garney my father is James John Garney born in New York 1941 his Father was Harold Garney he died in the 60's and his mother was Katherine Mcdermott/Garney. she had previously married prior to my grandfather. I never met any of them and have little to nothing to go on.. My dad has a sister named Kathleen and had brother named charles mcdermott that had 2 children kevin and karen mcdermott all in New York. I believe that my grandfather Harold Garney was born in either Conn. or Mass. he had a brother that lived in California but that is the extent of my info anyone have any thing else?

I am originally from NY I currently live in NC. My father is James Garney I his father was Harold Garney. I believe they came from Conn. (I think) My grandmother would have been katherine Mcdermott -Garney I'm not sure that they ever married but alot of records show her last name as Garnier.. I have an aunt in Ny that say her dad (my grandfather) told her that when they came over from Canada the people couldn't understand what they were saying thier last name was (ie Garnier) so they changed it to Garney, Feel free to email me back.

Joseph Garney was my gggrandfather. He married a woman named margret (blanchard perhaps) and his son, Lewis, is my great-grandfather. He moved to Cabot, Vt. He and his wife Elvira had a large family. Further info if interested.

Hello. Trying to locate date and place of birth for Joseph Garney. Trois Riviere, Quebec area. Father to Lewis Garney born in Trois Riviere 13 Oct 1820. Died 23 Sept in Cabot Vt.
