Hedwig T. "Hedy" Klan Garr, 87,
passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at St. Mary's Home-East. She was born December 12, 1924 in Erie, daughter of the late Anthony and Helen Rybinski Klan. She taught school at St. Stanislaus School. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, the St. Stan's Moms Club, and the Holy Rosary Society. She enjoyed archery, knitting, sewing and crocheting. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Garr, former owner of the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, a grandson, Christopher Ryan Steigmeyer, four sisters, Mary Therese Klan, Helen J. Klan, Anne C. Matuszak, Cecelia J. Klan, a brother Joseph A. Klan, and a brother-in-law, Jerome Matuszak. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Therese Witkowski (Larry) of Cape Coral, Fla., a daughter, Anita Garr, Jeanette, Pa., a daughter, Deborah Garr O'Neill (Richard) Lanham, Md., a daughter, Helen Marie Garr, Ashville, N.C., a son, Edward A. Garr (Mary) of Ripley, N.Y., a daughter, Margaret Mary Garr, Sterling, Va., a daughter, Jane Marie Steigmeyer (James "Curt"), Harborcreek, Pa., a son Joseph A. Garr (Sarah), Key West, Fla., and a brother Carl Klan (Theresa) of Erie. Also survived by three grandchildren, Helen Ann Ehlers (Sean) Gaithersburg, Md., Sarah Orris, Indianapolis, Ind., Joseph Tate Garr, Key West, Fla., and a sister-in-law, Mary C. Klan of Louisville, Ky. Relatives and friends may call at the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, 459 East 12th Street, Erie, PA 16503, Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church.
