Hi Ruth: Thanks for your response. I saw the 1850 census a few days ago can figured Jacob was Robert's brother.
Robert M. Garretson used "Garretson" the two times he registered for the Civil War draft. I know it's him because his occupation is listed as "painter."
Have you ever contacted the Hudson County Clerk's office for marriage records?
On the marriage cert of William Henry Miller and Josephine Garrison, the officiant was Rev. John S. Longmore, JCM. I tried to find out what denomination this is and I think it is Presbyterian.
As far as alternate sources for records, if you know what religion they were, you could find the church records. Are you sure the all got married in NJ?
My friend, Richard King, is a great-great grandson of Robert M. Garrison and his second wife, Elizabeth.
I was able to get the marriage cert of Josephine Garrison and William Henry Miller at the NJ State Archives in Trenton on Monday.
Thank you,
Margaret in NJ
