Hello again Kay,

Since I know you will have a few questions on this Quaker, Cornelius GARRETSON, b.c. 1734 [this date being taken from author FETTER's entry], here are a few more details. This is a continuation of my previous posting to you.

Realize that I did not mention parents for him, due to the question mark preceding his name, in the child #3 of 6 kids slot. So it appears author, FETTER, questions his own entry of Cornelius as the third child, or some other issue. This ?Cornelius 1734 is listed with siblings (specified as being in no order ): Garret bc 1732, Cullender died 1772 (Catherine Beech named as his wife), ?Cornelius c1734 (himself), Mary, Charity NORRIS, Margaret RULY. Parents of these six kids seem to be/may be? John GARRETSON (died by 4 Sept 1783) m 11 December 1729 New Castle MH, Margaret COLLENDER, daughter of Nicholas COLLENDER of New Castle Co, DE. You will note that the parents had issues with the New Castle Preparative Meeting, 19 July 1758, et al two years after Cornelius' certificate of removal was issued, 1756--The parents were disowned by Wilmington MM on 14 Jun 1759 [fn14 citing to ________] or three years after the 1756 certificate. The problem seems to do with "binding his children to those of other Societies"- so perhaps other religions interfered?

But when FETTER discusses Margaret COLLENDER Garretson's will signed by her (the mother) on 4 Sept 1783, but proved two years later, in New Castle DE, 24 Aug 1785 (after the mother died), I do not readily see any son named Cornelius in the abstract info provided by the very thorough author. So would we have to assume that this Cornelius died before she signed it, 1783...or before it was proven, 1785, and somewhere his name could have been crossed off (wishful thinking here...).or some other issue making Fetter question his placement in this family grouping...

If the names of Samuel WANDEWARE or William LAND, two named grandchildren (in the mother's will) could be tied into the line, it may help Fetter's family grouping, but it might not help with Cornelius 1734...

Fetter does state that the West River MM records contain the births of two children of Cornelius and Priscilla [Hutchinson?] Garretson: John Hutchinson Garretson b. 1764, and Thomas Garretson b. 1765. Yes the ? of Priscilla's surname is also that of Fetter, so whether she is named Priscilla Hutchinson is unclear...

Should anyone have insight into this important family grouping, please post in reply to this message thread. Thanks!
