Re: Isaac Garrison - Montauban France

Data from the Montauban archives exclude that Isaac GARRISON, the father of Revolutionary War soldier Isaac (1732-1838) is a son of another Isaac, of Montauban, by his wife Jeanne MINVIELLE.

This is the line of the Montauban Isaac’s as now known:
Isaac (I) GARRISSON, born Montauban 15 December 1617, makes a will Montauban 1695, died Montauban 24. Febr. 1701;
Marr. Montauban 26 July 1642 Jeanne de LATREILLE , born Montauban 1629, emigrated to the United Kingdom, ill in bed in London 1697, died before febr. 1699. Their third son:

Isaac (II) GARRISSON, born Montauban 12 July 1651, a barrister of Montauban, emigrated 1685 to the United Kingdom but returned and died Montauban 1 September 1693.
Marr. Corbarieu (between Toulouse & Montauban) 19 March 1675 Catherine ROUMAGNAC, born Montauban 17 July 1657, died Montauban 1 April 1739, dr. of Jean ROUMAGNAC and Anne COMBES. (No family relation of the Col. de Romagnac in Dublin!)
In his will of 1695 his father Isaac (I) cites as is son Isaac (II)’s children only Isaac (III), who has left the country, and Jacob.
The two sons of this mariage are:
1. Isaac (III) GARRISSON (nicknamed of the Iles), born Montauban 28 December 1676, is out of the country in 1695, naturalised New York 1705 (by British Parliament), merchant of New York 1706, then citizen of and chemist in Montauban, died Montauban 30 June 1742 (!).
He marr. (1) Montauban 24 February 1705 Jeanne MINVIELLE, born Montauban 1678, inherited from her uncle Gabriel MINVIELLE (mayor of New York in 1684) part of a house on Broadway which she and her coheirs sell in 1706, died Montauban between 6 May 1709 & 20 January 1710, dr. of Pierre MINVIELLE, merchant of Montauban, by his first wife Françoise RESTE.
The couple makes a will in 1705, as they are about to travel to the United Kingdom. However they are back in Montauban in 1709.
He marr. (2) Montauban 14 October 1710 Jeanne PLASSE, widow of Pierre PETIT.
He makes another will in 1731 and a third one in 1734, leaving items to various people outside of his own family, but he makes no mention of any children either in France or in the United States.
As all his relatives always mention in their wills their children living in other countries it simply means that the couple was childless.
It is also not likely that they would have returned to France in 1709 without taking their alleged four year old son with them.

2. Jacob GARRISSON, born Montauban 7 February 1683, died ?
Marr. Montauban 5 May 1714 Valencie SATUR, who died Montauban (protestant) 9 September 1761, dr. of Thomas SATUR (vicar of Montauban in 1672, but who emigrated in 1683 to London) and Jeanne GARRISSON (who emigrated in 1685 and was naturalised in the United Kingdom in 1686).
We know of two children only:
a. Jacques Isaac GARRISSON, born Montauban 23 February 1718. (=?)
b. Thomas (alias Isaac?) GARRISSON‑SATUR, who inherited 30 Pounds from his aunt Marianne Satur in 1776 and who declared the death of his mother in Montauban in 1761.
So far for the Montauban Isaac line.

The father of the soldier Isaac is supposed to be:
Isaac GARRIS(s)ON, born New York? about 1706, tanner, establishes himself in Washington Cy, Maryland, landowner in Orange Co, Virginia 1734‑'42. then in Frederick Co, Maryland, and later in Surry Cy, North Carolina 1756, buys 1000 acres of land on the Lick Creek and the Potomac, mentioned in the tax rolls 1771, and with his son Isaac in those of 1772, died Surry Co., N.C. 1778.
Marr. Salem Co, NJ 24 March 1727 Elizabeth LAWRENCE, born Salem 24 May 1712, dr. of William LAWRENCE, of New York City, has property in east & west Jersey, across the Hudson opposite Staten Island. They had six sons etc.

A marriage of one Isaac Garrisson to a RAGANAR never existed.
Conlusion: the Isaac GARRISSON from the USA do NOT descend from the Montauban family

John Labouchere
John and Rebecca.

Sharon GARRISON was the party who wrote to me and told me about John's autobiography. I made the notes on Isaac's file. Hope this is helpful to both of you. Can get together and find out where the information may be incorrect.
Thank you. I received an email reply back from one of John and Rebecca's descedants. I had made an assumption that the other John and Rebecca were the same couple. Turned out NOT.
Their ancestor had written his own autobiography and did not include any of the FITHIAN or SEELY , READING, BEATTY, etc on it.
I do not have a Richard GARRISON linked on my file for John GARRISON and Rebecca MILLS. Was he one of their children?? or ? Thank you. Just wish to keep my files as straight as possible.
There is a MILLS family in the area of Salem/Cumberland Co NJ, that of John MILLS - mary SEELY/SEELEY, etc. I thought maybe that Rebecca belonged to one of their children? But no one seems to claim her.

Pat
cw
My MILLS by DNA and my line are of Westfield, Essex Co NJ and Sussex Co NJ USA. Sussex Co NJ - John MILLS moved to Ontario Canada, as they were loyalists. I still have no CONCRETE documenation who his father was. At least by DNA they are related to 4 other families/branches of MILLS of New Jersey.

Census records indicate my family back to the 1800's in Missouri, Kentucky, and Ohio. I know for a fact that my James was a the riverboat captain in Ohio Mr. Kirk speaks of, per my Great Aunt Helen who is still alive, and lives in Steelville, mo. and remembers her g-Grandma Doll [Maria] very well. she told me long before I knew Mr. Kirk's book existed, and I have heard my family speak of William {Tolivar or Toll] whom if memory serves me right also lived in Mo. for a while as did Elijah did before Elijah [Lige] moved back to Ohio. Alexander b. 1826 in Ky. is definitely my gg-grandfather and the husband of Sousannah Goslin/Gosnell., daughter of Benjamin Goslin/Gosnell and I believe Sally Hogg. She was Alex's 2nd. wife, his first wife was a Nancy Willis [Ohio], but they were only married for a very short time. His 3rd. wife was my gg-grandmother Emily Adelia [Della] Rutter. she was married to him at the time of his death, per my g-grandfather Labor L [Labe or Lafe] b. 1874 was thier son and his son Joseph A. b. 1901 is my grandfather, I am the daughter of Joseph's daughter Barbara.. the family was originally from Va. or N.C. and moved to Ky. from there in the early 1800's. I believe the Sullivan family and the Garrison family migrated to Maysville, Mason Co. Ky. from Virginia together where in I believe James and Maria were married in 1825, I do have the exact wedding date but not right in front of me. So yes I do know my line. no, I have not found any cousins from the Samuel Y. line or the old David of N.C. trees. But i do believe we will trace back to Isaac as I said before I don't know which Isaac, there are a ton of them.

My grandfather was Leon Garrison. His brothers were Montaine, Jerry, Charles, and Trent. His sisters were Linda, Nora Lee, and Elizabeth. Their father was Montgomery Garrison (married to a Miller)(brother's named Max, Earl, and James Garrison). James Garrison moved to Indiana, I'm told. Montgomery's father was Silas Garrison. Silas had two wives. The first was white and the second one indian. Silas had like 22 children all together. When I asked my great uncle what tribe my grandmother came from he said he believes Creek (the got smacked down if they talked about her being indian).

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about Malaki's parents. He was born in Georgia so his parents were probably neighbors of Zebulon & Rebekah in Franklin Co GA.

I descend from Zebulon & Rebekah's youngest child, Caleb Garrison who married Susannah Clark. Caleb was born about 1817 so Susannah Garrison Smith had already married and left home by the time her youngest brother was born. Caleb's son James Allan Garrison was my mother's grandfather.

Thank you for the information about the Johnson and Free children. That really helps.

I think you're still missing a generation.

Malaki Smith (born about 1794 in Georgia)
Susannah Garrison (born about 1800 in Georgia)
married September 11, 1814 in Franklin Co., GA

Malaki died May 5, 1859 and Susannah died July 1866. Malaki's wife Susannah Garrison Smith was about 60 years old when Malaki died.

Their daughter Susannah Smith born about 1832 in Illinois married Israel Johnson February 17, 1853 in Macoupin County, Illinois, six years before her father Malaki died and 13 years before her mother Susannah Garrison Smith died at the age of 66.

Malaki Smith's estate was administered by his son Wiley Smith.

The probate file in Montgomery County Illinois shows that the estate of Susannah Garrison Smith deceased July 6, 1866 was administered by Israel Johnson. This was his mother-in-law, still named Smith, not his wife. Susannah Garrison did not remarry after the death of Malaki.

Israel's wife Susan/Susannah Smith Johnson was still alive in the 1870 census but appears to have died before 1878 when Israel married Hannah Sanderson.
Hi Peggy, I'm sure you meant to say Zebulon & Susannah's granddaughter married Israel Johnson but I'll just show the lineage so others won't get confused. Zebulon's daughter Susannah born about 1800 married Malaki Smith in Georgia. Susannah and Malaki had 12 children including Susannah born about 1832. She married Israel Johnson who was then the executor of her mother Susannah's will.

Then I need your help. Looks like I just picked up the names from census listings which are notorious for being wrong. I'm showing eight children for them including daughters Malany about 1856, Molona about 1856, and Melina about 1862. I'm sure one of these should be your Marlina who married William Free. How about posting a correct list of these Garrison descendants so I can correct my tree?

Warren County Kentucky DNA results

Big news from a DNA test! A descendant of Caleb Garrison of Warren County Kentucky has received the results of the first 12 markers of his 37 marker DNA test showing his haplogroup as R1b1b2! He is a PERFECT 12 for 12 match to the two descendants of Zebulon Garrison, the four descendants of Jedediah Garrison and more importantly, to the descendant of Shadrack's son John. We will have to wait a few weeks to see the rest of his results. We believe Caleb was the son of Shadrack Garrison but are still working on the proofs. Shadrack, Caleb, and Shadrack's daughter Eleanor Garrison Thomas are all found living at Smith's Grove in Warren County Kentucky.

Shadrack was in Franklin County Georgia in 1793 when he appeared on the militia list of Capt. Benjamin Easley. He was in Kentucky by about 1800, appearing in records in Barren and Warren County.

This is especially exciting for this Garrison family because their branch had migrated to North Dakota and then to Canada. They have an excellent paper trail, with proofs, back to Caleb of Warren County Kentucky. They now appear to have confirmation of several years of excellent research.

Norma --I am looking at page 1 of Mr. Wilson's book (The Kirk and Wilson Family Tree) and it refers to a wedding of George Garrison Jr. who married Betsy James, 1 Jan 1825, with George Garrison Sr. as bondsman. Mr. Wilson states on pg 1, "George Garrison, Sr. evidently was [tugboat captain] James Garrison's father".

No middle initial of W is evident. Where exactly did you get this info?

I have spent two days on this, and I still dont know who you even claim as James' father

Who is Norma talking about-- ie, a George W. Garrison, Sr. born abt 1760-1770, [ with a son George Jr. who married Betsy JAMES in 1825, in Mason County KY,]with George Sr. being the father of tugboat captain James.

Good luck. Hope you order a National Geographic test kit for your uncle. Someone needs to cough up the $108, so you can get on with it...Your Irish line should fit into the Garrison I project... Their daughter, Mary Ann Vineyard, married David Osburne Sullivan. I have been looking for Mary Ann's parents for quite awhile. David Osburne Sullivan is my gggrandfather.
Hi,
I think that your Isham Garrison and my ancestor, Paul Garrison, must have been related.
My Paul Garrison, b. c. 1806 Virginia, named his son, Isham Paul Garrison.
I am currently looking for all documentation on all of the Isham Garrisons who ever lived. Maybe we can help each other.
Mary Lee Becker
mary.becker "AT" sbcglobal.net

Re: Gerrit Jansen van Oldenburg>Jacob Garrison

Dixon Smith has contributed to the DNA project and was given the information that he is related to the Oldenburg branch...Gerrit who had a son Jacob Garrison....who went to New Jersey around 1639. Dixon is from a Garrison line that was in New Jersey at this time until they went to Ohio around 1815 I think (Clinton County Ohio).

It is good to hear from you again. I have not been again to connect Ranger Lemuel Garrison (1903-1984) with our Garrison family,

As to our Lemuel Garrison (c1750-1818) DNA analysis is now showing more matches and also unraveling some supposed connections. The Garrisons' Compass project now has 21 Y-DNA results that closely match showing they are descendants of Gerritt Jansen Van Oldenberg (c1605-1661) and his son Jacob Garrison (1646-1708/09). This Jacob did not come from Hiers, France, but was born in New York. He was living on Long Island Sound in 1691 and in 1695 he moved to Autuxit (near Newport, Cumberland Co., New Jersey). Autuxit is only twenty miles from Tuckahoe where our Garrisons lived before moving to Ohio about 1808. The project also has five other separate groupings of other Garrisons.

For more on the DNA project see http://www.garrisonscompass.com/ . Have you thought of having a brother or male cousin join the project?

There is still a one or two generation gap between our Lemuel and Jacob of Autuxit.

I have more about GJVO online at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

Regards,
Dixon
Novato, CA

Mrs. Margaret E. Garrison

I am trying to learn the maiden name of my gggrandmother Mrs. Margaret E. Garrison born in Georgia in 1813. She married Caswell Cook, and I assume because she is given as Mrs. Garrison on the wedding information that she was a widow at age 19.
