Hi
re the Panzram Surname in Harmelsdorf...my Panzram family come from this same area and I have been back there and can tell you if you are looking for records you will be very dissappointed!! as that area suffered badly in WW2 and the only church I found to have records was Marzdorf now Marcinkowice...and in these records I did find my great grands mothers baptism (Schulz) record with a note naming the ship and date they came to Australia.. one other interesting thing I have noted with contact with all others researchiing the Panzram name they all come from this area...my family came from Marthe near Tutz...and I have found some records to show the Panceram family was there for a couple hundred years but I can't connect my family to this as a generation or two missing..but if you wish to contact me my email is antzpanz@westnet.com.au Anthony Panzram

In the Garske death certificates that I sent you, did I include the one for Alfred Garske, d 5 Oct 1920? He was the son of John & Mary (can't make out her maiden name) Garske. According to death cert, he was about 28 when he died. According to 1910 Erie, Pa census, he was 17 at that time so that puts his birth about 1893.

Hi Sam,
I've not done much with my search since last winter. We had hoped to go to Poland this year, but was not ready with my info. Are you from the John Garske family in Seattle and Bend, Oregon?I have a copy of his "diary" that he gave my aunt Julia Smolka years ago in thanks for sending him info on the relatives in Minnesota.
We were in Ore and Washington for Thanksgiving 2002 and talked to the relatives there at that time.
We have a son who lives near Portland and hunts near "Garske's Well" in Oregon. It is funny how lives criss cross.
My grandmother Augusta Garske Smolka was Stephen and Anna Garske's daughter. They lived in Winsted, Minn. My father, Frank Smolka, was her daughter. I need to find my grandfather, Adolph Smolka's relatives in "Prussia" too.l He died in 1895 when my dad was only two and his brother was ten days old. There were four older sisters. A tough time for them.

Where do you live? and who are your parents? Have you been to Rutwica? I want to write over there for records but don't know how. I will some day.

Martha
Hi, stephen's parents were from harmelsdorf, but that was renamed Rutwica after WWII when west prussia was given to poland. I know this because stephen was my g g g grandfather's brother, and when my g g grandfather Gregor came over to the US when he was 14, he stayed with his uncle stephen in winsted for a while before venturing out on his own. Kinda interesting connection, eh?

Sam

I have a page from 1812 from the Zippnow (Sypniewo in Polish) Catholic church records, which cover Stabitz. It lists a child (Martin) born in Stabitz to a Peter Müde and a Marion Warnke. One of the godparents was a Michael Lenz, who I believe was one of our ancesters. Müde looks a lot like your Miede, and although you are looking for a Paul and not a Martin, this Martin could perhaps be Paul's brother. Stabitz was a very small place (about 100 people), so there wouldn't have been a lot of people with this surname. Unfortunately I do not have any pages between 1798 and 1812 and between 1812 and 1819 - otherwise I might have found some more of Peter and Marion's children.

Michael Nickless (England)

To Tara Pierce - Your Great Grandmother is my Aunt Mary, sister to my dad, Ray Garske from the family farm in Wilton. We used to visit them in Tunnel City when I was a young man. Very happy to hear from a Garske descendent and would like to converse more if you'd like. Please e-mail me at the following - Raymond.Garske@mci.com and I'll be more than happy to respond and tell you what I know about the Garske's of Wilton.

Garske

Hi. I have an Anna Garske in my line. Unfortunately dates are difficult, but I do know that she married Paul Miede/Miede who I believe was from Stabitz, Germany and is now Zdbice Poland. One of their daughters is Augustina (Gustina) and was born in 1839, so my Anna could have been born somewhere between 1819 or earlier. Does anyone have a clue on this? All their children (the ones I know anyway) came to Minnesota. Thanks for any help in advance.

My grandmother was Augusta Garske Smolka from Winsted, MN. I'm looking for the actual place in Poland where she was born and baptized. Her parents were Stephen and Anna Garske. I'm searching for Stephen's parents, Jacob Garske and Anna (Panzram) in Poland. I have Harmelsdorf, Deutsch Krone, West Prussia as where they farmed. I want the name of a Catholic Church so I can find records there.
My father was Frank Joseph Smolka. We lived in Mankato, MN.
I'm wondering who you are. I've never looked on this message board before.
Thanks.

My great-great grandmother was Amelia Emilie Bertha Christiane Garska (b. Dec 3, 1857,Pozon Germany, d. April 10, 1910). Her parents were Johann and Wilhelmina Garske. There was a change in spelling probably when they arrived in America. I know that she was married in Portage, WI to Christian Fredrich Scherbarth March 4, 1878. If any of these names are familiar I would be interested in comparing notes.
