Lafe Frank Garst Sr., 79, 434 Leland, died Saturday, April 6, at his home.
Mr. Garst drove a transport 22 1/2 years before he retired.
He was born Feb. 28, 1906, at Glasco, the son of Frank Tillman and Mary Elizabeth Wright Garst. He moved from Burlington, Wis., to Topeka two years ago.
Mr. Garst was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie N. 58 at Topeka.
He was married to Alice Kendall Feb. 15, 1935, at Bellville. She died March 19, 1983. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Maxine Garst, and two sons, John Garst and Lyle Garst.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mary Tachner, Burlington, Wis., and Mrs. Anna Belle Scofield and Mrs. Letha Mae Griffiths, both of Topeka; seven sons, Lafe Garst Jr., Donald Garst, Burton Garst, Fred Garst, Paul Garst and Glen Garst, all of Topeka, and Alvin Garst, El Dorado; 25 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dean Funeral Home in Glasco. Burial will be in Glasco Cemetery. Mr. Garst will lie in state from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday at Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka where the family will meet with friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Monday.
