Ruth Helen Garst was born January 18, 1904 to C.V. and Laura Hall Minner, at Miltonvale, Kansas and departed this life on May 1, 1972 at the Mitchell County Community hospital, Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 13 days.
Ruth attended school in Miltonvale, and when her parents died at an early age, she was raised by her older sister, Mrs. Jim DeBolt of Glasco, Kansas.
On November 11, 1920, she was united in marriage to Hugh Thompson. To this union was born one son, Burton J.
On June 16, 1922, she was united in marriage to Purl S. Garst. Three sons were born to this union, Wesly N.; Tillman P. and Frank S. In 1945 Purl and Ruth adopted their daughter, Theresa Ann.
Ruth was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and for many years worked in the laundry department of the Mitchell County Hospital, where she was head of the department at the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband Purl March 19, 1964.
She leaves to mourn her death, her daughter, Theresa, Mrs. Robert Milburn, Beloit; four sons, Wesly, Chula Vista, California; Tillman, Beloit; Frank, Gardena, California; Burton Thompson, Osborne; one step-son, Edward, Garst, Glasco; 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; also other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 1972 at the Harrison Funeral Home, Rev. Harold C. Holland officiating. Helen Wesselowski sang How Great Thou Art and Beyond the Sunset, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. R.C. Baler.
Casket bearers were Richard Williams, Vernon Thiessen, Ed Hund, John Hyman, Billie Bowles, and Bernard Schrandt.
Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Ralph Joyce and Mrs. Sarah Simoneau. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, Kans.
