Thanks. Yes I have tried the findagrave site but she is not listed. I have the Summers County and Monroe County cemetery books but she is not listed in either one.

I have been unable to locate her in either the 1870 or the 1880 censuses. Of course that is not unusual - different spellings, etc. - but I have tried every spelling that I can think of; I have searched to see if she is living with one of her children, etc. I don't doubt that she is probably there but I sure can't find her. And I have seen no reference that documents the 1888 death date.

What is the Burton Garten book that you mentioned? I am not aware of it.

according to the book put out by Burton Garten she was still in WV in 1880 Monroe co VA(WV) censuses

It was great getting your e-mail. my mother did not have any records except the birth page of the family bible.(which I now have). William Fields Gartin (born 1868 died 1919 at Crooked Creek, WV (Logan County0 married Genevra Maude Johnson(born June 4, 1875 and died March, 1934 in Huntington, WV). They were married June 4, 1890. Rebecca Ballengee Garten (1810-1888); Monroe County, VA / WV

Rebecca Ballengee was the wife of Thompson Garten, who died in 1859. She supposedly died 29 June 1888 but I can find no record of that. In fact I can find no record of her at all past the 1860 Monroe County census. Can anyone point out records after 1860, especially a death record?

I am looking for information on William Gartin, born about 1870 in Aracoma, WV. He married Genevra Maude Johnson in 1890 in Johnson County, KY. He died March 1919 in Aracoma.

I am trying to find info on my great grandmother Myrtle Elizabeth Garten supposedly born abt. 1901 to Henry hutchison Garten and Willie Garten. She married Dewey Moter in 1916. Then married A Fred Farmer in Wyoming County in 1926. after this I can not find any record of her. I cannot even find her birth record. any help anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

Garnet Sabilla Garten was my grandmother, she married Alva Ervin Hackney. They had 3 children, Juanita,Acy and Daniel. Garnet's parents were Frank Garten and Frances Moore. Garnet passed away at age 34 due to complications from diabities, My mother Juanita also passed away in 92 of the same.........runs in the family:(
