Hello, George Gartner, 1875, was the father to my grandfather. George married Barbara Heim. George's father was John Gartner. I think that it is all intertwined.
I have a huge family tree that I have been working on, and would be glad to share any information that I have gathered and worked on, as well as enjoying any you may have. I am a 39 year old grandson of Thomas D. Gartner. He was, and most of the Gartner family, everything to me. I have researched the family for quite some time with birthdates, places, etc...
George was born in pfeifer, Russia in 1875 to Jonh Gartner and Katherina Kollman. I had information about children, but lost it somewhere. brianandginasalsbury@yahoo.com please feel free to email me with any information on the gartner heritage. Thank you. Ps. looking for pictures of family as well.

How far back do the Hamilton County Records go?

Looks like the STEIN and STINE surnames were almost interchangeable, possibly due to how the census taker wrote/spelled it?

What are your thoughts on the 1850 census that you found even with the slight variation of the age compared to the years following?

1880 IN Jennings Co North Vernon tsp
Stine Sebastian 56 shoe maker GERM GERM GERM
Stine Catherine 46 GERM GERM GERM
Stine Wm 20 son at home IN
Stine Mary 11 dau IN
Stine Frank son IN
Stine Nicholas 6 son IN
Stine Catherine 3 dau IN

1870 IN Jennings North Vernon
Stein Sabastian 43 shoemaker Baveria
Stein Catharine 33 IN
Stein Joseph 16 IN
Stein Sebastian 14 IN
Stein Henry 12 IN
Stein Jacob 10 IN
Stein Wm 9 IN
Stein Lannie? 7 IN
Stein George 6 IN
Stein Hannah 3 IN
Stein Mary 1 IN

1860 IN Jefferson Co Madison tsp
Sebastine Stine 33 shoemaker GERM
Catharine Stine 24 wife GERM
Joseph Stine 5 IN
Sebastine Stine 4 IN
Henry Stine 3 IN
Jacob Stine 1 IN

1850 OH Hamilton Co Cincinnati Wd 10
Sebastian Stein 25 shoemaker GERM
living in the Gartner family

Warm Regards,
Dennis W.

Sorry I can't give any exact dates about Arthur. My father was born in 1914, so I estimate Arthur (his half-brother) to be born anywhere between 1910 and 1920. My Dad's (I presume Arthur's, too) father was Johann (born 1866 in London). Johann's parents were Christian Heinrich Gartner - born 2 July 1866, and Anna Christina (nee Bohling) - born 1844. They both died in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. I have no info at all on Arthur. Hoping you can give me some information.

I am looking for ancestors of Arthur Gartner who was a Brigadier Guard in London. He was my Dad's half brother and came from the line of Hannah (nee Bohling) and Christian Gartner. My Dad's father was Jack and his mother was Mary. We had a photo of Arthur, but cannot find it anywhere and would love to get information regarding him - his life - his family. Many thanks. Email me if you would like to. Makes it easier, too.
Herman Gartner

Kathleen, I came across some information on a Herman Gartner on the "Historic Pittsburgh" web site. I don't know if this guy is in your line, but I thought I'd pass it along just in case. This Herman Gartner came to the US from Dortmund, a city of Prussia, in Westphalia, on the Emster River, 27 miles from Arnsburg. He is a son of Herman and Fredericka (Von Oepen) Gartner. If this fits for you, go to this site: http://digital.library.pitt.edu/pittsburgh/ and then select full-text collection--you can perform different kinds of searches from there. This is a pretty good site for anyone researching folks from the Pittsburgh/Southwestern PA region. It also contains early maps of the region. If you have any trouble, e-mail me at lbraund@fyi.net Good Luck!
PS: I STILL haven't been able to get any info on August Gartner!

August Gartner

I am looking for information on my great grandfather, August Gartner. August came from Germany (possibly Prussia)--I think in the 1880's. I recently found out that he petitioned for naturalization in 1888--at that time he was living in Allegheny City, PA. August married Hildegard Schad (don't know when) and eventually built his family home on Mt. Troy Road, Pittsburgh, PA. (my grandfather--Joseph C. Gartner and my father, Joseph R. Gartner were both born in this family home) I am trying to find out exactly when he arrived in America, where exactly he came from, when he was married, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have been learning new information on my Gartner ancestors, which I am trying to compile in a web site. Even though it is a work in progress, I thought that I'd include the address here for you to check it out to see if anyone looked familiar to you...

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gartner/index.htm

Sorry--I'm having some trouble with the Internet Family Tree, which I'm working on with two different companies--Sierra's Generation Easy Tree Microsoft FrontPage. I think that we have it narrowed down to a problem dealing with case sensitive file names--which seems odd to me, but that's what they say! The Internet Family Tree Links are the only ones that are not working to my knowledge--you should be able to click on my different Gartner/Gaertner ancestors from that page to get detailed information. I also believe that the "index" of the Internet Family Tree is working enough so that you can at least see the names. If you see a name that you think is a connection, just e-mail me directly at lbraund@fyi.net, and we can work on it. I hope to have all the links working soon.

I am tracing back my Grandmother's roots. I need help with any additional information. My grandmother Irma Gartner (married Hugo Tobias) was born in Ruppichteroth, Germany. They had a son (my father) Walter from Connecticut. Her father was Hermann Gartner (died in Auschwitz) (married to Selma Mayer) Hermann had many sisters and brothers: Max (died in KZ), Moritz, Gustav, Joseph, Franziska, Emma (married Markus Treidel), Lina, Nathan, and David. My Grandmother's grandfather (Hermann's father) was Simon Gartner married to Regina Nathan. Simon's father was Salomon Gartner married to Veronica Mayer. Simon's brother was Jakub Gartner(married to Johanna Nathan and had 7 children) I've dated back to 1844. Need to know much more.

Hello! Have you been able to find out anything more about your family? The reason I am asking is I have a George Gartner (Gardner) in my husband's family tree that came from Germany. He was born about 1860 to what could be George Gartner Sr. & ?. I'm trying to find out more information on this family as well. All I know is that he came to Hawaii and married a 15 year old girl named Johanna Kruse that also came from Germany.

Please let me know. Thanks!! Lori
