Hi there :) Thank you for responding to my post. I am very intrigued with 'all this'. I am a daughter of the Evelyn, who has the personal details you posted. In the first posting that I saw, you noted that you are a granddaughter of Evelyn. What is the 'incorrect information' you referred to in your post from 16th April, 2013 (12:00 a.m.) ?

I am keen to hear again from you - yet a little nervous at the same time.

Sincerely  :)

I would appreciate any information on Emily J. Garten, married James S. Marshall. The only record I have found is her marriage bond to James S Marshall 14 Oct 1842. James remarried in 1850 and has the children of Emily. She must have died prior to 1850 (childbirth?). In the 1850 census, the children (William H. and Mary E. [my great grandmother] are staying with William H. and Mary Garton. I don't know how Emily is related to William. 3 days later in the same census, they are back with their father (single). He was married later that year. Any information would be appreciated.

I too am trying to find information on Malinda Dean Garton. I have her sorority pins from the 1920's and would like to know the school she attended and any other info. I do know she wrote a couple books and that she died in 1976. Her obituary is in the Joliet Hearld. Her Social Security number was given to her when she was in Oklahoma. If by chance you have received other info that you are willing to share it would be much appreciated. Thanks Robin

Thank you for the reply. This morning had a 1 hour ($49 charge) call with a DNA expert with Genetree.com and she informed me the same thing. I have also seen the Lucinda Garten with Lewis Copeland and ruled that one out as a possible since mine has a headstone with 1805 and Lucinda Garton Miller. Also census and marriage records for the John Miller/Lucinda line. Just nothing on her parents. I do have some other researchers that have her as Lorinda Lucinda Garton if you come across another Lucinda or Lorinda.

Thanks again,
Paul Miller

Hi Paul, I have a Lucinda Garten in my family who was born about 1805 in Monroe County, Virginia and married Lewis Copeland. I don't have any more information about them only that she was the daughter of Nathaniel Garten from Orange County, Virginia.

If you took a Y-Chromosome DNA test, it would show you your Miller line and not include any Garton DNA. You would have to find a male Garton cousin to take a test for you.

Daniela

Garton/Garten Research Project

Hello Garton/Garten Researchers,

We have a group of genealogists researching their Garton ancestors that have taken a DNA test or two to help them with their research. Here is our website www.familytreedna.com/public/Garton. From there, click on the links on the left hand side called Y-DNA Results or mtDNA Results to see who are the most distant ancestors that our project members are working on.

I am the volunteer project administrator for this website and I do not work for Family Tree DNA. I have used DNA testing in my own research and am an enthusiast. If you have any questions about how DNA testing can help you in your research or want to share how it has helped you, please post your responses.

One reason for posting this message is that the more people who join our project the better chance we have of finding a genetic match and possibly advancing our research. It is fortunate to find someone who matches you who has researched their ancestor back more generations than you. Another reason for this message is that Family Tree DNA is having a summer sale of $40 off that ends on June 25.

Here is the Garton/Garten ancestor that I am research. I descend from William Garton born about 1630 in England and died December 1709 in Lancaster Co., VA. He married Hanah Margaret Angell and they had the following children: Uriah, Margaret, Katherine, James, and Anthony. I descend from Uriah Garten born 1658 in Lancaster County, Virginia, through his son Elijah Garten . . . to more recent times to John Garten born in 1768 in Monroe Co., VA who married Matilda Wray. I have made several trips to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City to do research on my Garten family but it is a tough one. I would love to hear from anyone researching this line.

Good luck in your research,

Daniela Moneta
Phoenix, Arizona

Garton and Miss Cora Adamson, Rev. J.W. Walker officiating.

Mr. Garton is the son of C. L. Garton, and follows the same vocation as his father, that of blacksmithing, and is a steady industrious young man. The bride is the daughter of Mr. Thos. Adamson and has many warm friends who will wish her a long and happy married life. The ceremony took place at 7:30 and was witnessed by about one hundred guests, among whom were a number of town friends. A bounteous supper was served and enjoyed by all. Mr. and Mrs. Garton will immediately commence housekeeping in their new home on Cedar street.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In other records I see a Charles and Cora who had a son named Ralph who married Florence Marie Arendt.
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op...
http://gentree.usgenfiles.com/getperson.php?personID=I1142&a...
OK, so if you know anything more about this family, please let me know!
Thank you!
Jen Powers
Samuel Garton
I am trying to locate any members of the family of Samuel Garton married to Hilda Bercumshaw.  Their only child was Vernon Geoffrey Garton born 22nd September 1925 and he was my late father who died just  months ago.  I was born in Chaderston Derby in 1951 and we emigrated to New Zealand in 1956.  Any clues to help me follow up on family would be appreciated.  Thanks
I am searching for the parents of Thomas MORRIS Jr. born about 1720 in VA.  His father Thomas MORRIS Sr. married Margaret (unknown), but I have seen posts that her maiden name might have been GARTON.  Do you have any records of this marriage or anything else that might shed some light either way.
Thanks,
LeAnn
Hello Marilyn.  Thanks for your reply.  My message didn't evoke much of a response and I am still looking for information on Garton tobacconists after all this time.
Was your Cyril connected with tobacco?  I have a few details of a Cyril, though I haven't yet connected him to my tree.  This one's mother's maiden name seems to have been BERRY.  There's a George, Annie, Ada and Jessie.  They seem to have been from Sculcoates which is the right area and this Cyril was born in the December quarter of 1919.
Any information would be appreciated as it looks as though he may be related.
Keith.
