Re: Amanda Gartrell, Ky

I've found further information on Amanda's marriage after Joseph's death. Posted below.

Two questions: This discussion notes Dennis Joe is Joseph. Any citations in records? Second, anyone have more information on Joseph's death? I've found references that he died in Vicksburg, Mississippi, but nothing more.

Info about Amanda after Joseph's death:
1. Gravestone for Amandia (sic) Reynolds Holt, 1822--1904, Perryman Cemetery, Montague County, Texas. She is buried there with sons James Tipton, Martin Taylor, et al. Transcription at: http://ftp.rootsweb.ancestry.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/montague/ce...

2. The name Holt on her grave is from her 1869 marriage to Henry Holt. Amanda Holt and Henry Holt are together in the 1870 (he is transcribed as "Huy"), 1880, and 1900 censuses. 1900 census says they have been married 31 years: 1869. The children with them in the 1870 census (Elizabeth and Drura taken in Jackson, Boone Co, AR) are Henry's from his earlier marriage to a Martha (from 1860 census), with the exception of the 9 year old "FD", who I believe to be Joseph and Amanda's last child and my ggrandfather.

I may be able to share more and am interested in further developments or corrections. Please feel free to email me.

Tommy
tjreynold[at]gmail.com

Hi Flora,

I believe our families are related. My great grandmother was Hattie Gartrell and she had a brother named William. Their father was Isom/Isham Gartrell and his wife was Helly Tatum. This would make me your cousin-in-law or something. Anyway, if you happen to know anything else about your husband's family, let me know, okay?

Thanks
Ahn M

Re: Amanda Gartrell, Ky, Dennis Joe and Francis

Question on Amanda's husband and son.

I know this thread is old but it can't hurt to try.

I found a shred of evidence in the LDS database that Amanda and Dennis Joe/Joseph had a son, Francis, shortly before Dennis' death. Francis was born in Harrison, Boone Co., Arkansas in 1862. I can't find any of them in the 1870 census.

Does anyone have record relating Amanda to Francis or of Amanda after Dennis' death. My records show that Francis would have been their 9th child, after James, Sabra, Sarah, Martin, Artie, Lucinda, Mary, and Joseph.

I also have record that she is buried in Perryman Cemetery in Montague Texas--further tying her to my Francis.

Many thanks!
Tommy

Hey relatives!! i think that it quite obvious that we are all related what i think we need to do is figure out exactly who holds what info for which period of time. For instance the Gartrells in Washington Ga. would definatly have a direct tie to the Gartrells of Lincolnton GA. which is about a 20 min drive. MY fols are from here, and my grandfather Joe fosten Gartrell was from Washington GA. Like i said its plain as day as far as relation, there is not to many gartrells in the world!!

I live in Tyler County, WV where John and I. Newton were born. I have information on their parents, grandparents and siblings if you are interested.

Garterell's in Canada

I am researching my family tree and I am looking for any information on my ggg grandparents, John and Dorothea Garterell. John Garterell was born in December 1807 and he married Dorothea Harper Kinsman (born January 1809) in the parish on Stoke Damarel, Devon, England on February 22, 1836. At some point shortly after their marriage they immigrated to North America. I had at first assumed that it was to Canada but the 1851 census lists my gg grandmother, Elizabeth Treeby Garterell's citzenship as American. She was born in 1839. The first time I can traced them in Canada is on the 1851 census where they owned land in Fullerton Twp, Perth County Ontario. They remained here until both passed away (John died in 1884 and Dorothea died in 1898). They are buried in Roy's Cemetery, Fullerton Twp, Perth County. If anyone can connect with my John Garterell I would appreciate hearing from you.
